Ready for quilting . . that is!

Didn’t even take the time to pick the strings off of it since I have to fold it up and take it home anyway. Seven borders but worth the effort. Love the pieced border on this one. Love the blocks too. Heck, I love it all . . guess that’s why I made it!

Rude people aggravate the heck out of me! I know sometimes we’re all in a rush or abrupt without meaning to be and even when I encounter a truly rude and obnoxious person, usually I just think I hope I’m never that person and go about my business. But this woman took the prize this morning. The tire dealer opened at 7:30 and when I called my good friend (since first grade) who works there yesterday, they asked me to have my car there first thing this morning. My brakes were making a funny noise over the weekend (of course, they didn’t do it yesterday after I called) and my tires were a bit past due for a rotation.
This is the tire dealer I always used when I lived here and I measure all tire dealers against them and most do not measure up! These guys are nice and helpful and honest and trustworthy and did I say my friend since first grade works there?
Anyway, people get there first thing so there were already 2 guys sitting in their vehicles waiting when I got there about 7:20. The doors open at 7:30 and about 7:26, while everyone else is waiting in their cars or trucks, this woman comes driving up, jumps out and runs up to the door so she can be first in line.

Yes, I know . . in times of war and with people having cancer and Toyotas with sticking accelerators, this isn’t the end of the world but it’s downright rude! Almost always whoever was there first, gets waited on first when the doors open. Not with this woman! She rushed up to the counter, told them what she needed, went to the waiting room where eventually there were five of us and got on her cell phone. She explained to whomever and everyone she could think to call that (1) she had no appointments today, nothing to do at all so she decided to get her brakes checked and the van aligned (so why the big rush to be first in line if she had no fires to put out?) and (2) she was so mad because her parents had canceled their call waiting and caller id just to save $23/month. She went on and on and on and I wanted to say “Woman, shut up!!”
Everyone there in line had something they’d rather be doing and while I didn’t have anything really urgent, I knew there was an update with more Bugga yarn going to be posted at The Sanguine Gryphon and you know how badly I need yarn. The tire shop has wireless internet but I thought about it before leaving home and decided I really didn’t need more yarn so I left the laptop at home. As I sat there in the waiting room, the longer I sat there, the more desperate I became to try to get some of the new yarn.
Since the rude lady was first in line, she was first to leave and then I was very glad she had cut in line and was gone.
My brakes were fine, my tires were rotated and I was out of there in no time . . back at mom’s in time for the yarn update. Yes . . I got some . . too much but I love that Bugga yarn! And I figured that since I’ve put 82,000 miles on my car and my brake pads are only halfway worn, I deserved a treat. Afterall, Vince would have had to pay for the brake job so he should be happy he’s only paying for a few skeins of yarn. Somehow, I’m betting he won’t see it that way!

One of my favorite places to eat is Fogo de Chao and it isn’t because of the limitless melt in your mouth served at your table meats. It’s those little rolls. For us, the cost of eating there is kinda high and Vince thinks we should eat the meat in order to get our money’s worth. I’m perfectly happy to sit there and eat the warm rolls as soon as they bring them out. I like the salad too and while the meat is always good . . I’d take the rolls over the meat any day.
A blog reader, Ida, sent me a this recipe. They’re so good and I’ve been making them at home for a while now. After searching and finally finding tapioca flour in Lake Charles, I made the rolls for mom and dad. They’re hooked. They keep wanting more! Tonight after dinner, way too late to be eating bread, mom asked for the rolls.

This was mom’s plate and I think she’d already eaten a dozen before I got the picture. She and dad put jelly in them . . I put butter in mine. Either way, it’s not the best bedtime snack but they sure are good. They’re easy and mom should be able to make them after I’m gone.

It looks like I didn’t get much done since last Monday and I didn’t get much done on this quilt but don’t forget . . I’ve been binding up a storm! What I did accomplish is getting all of the blocks made for my Cupcake quilt. It doesn’t take long sewing in hotels and at mom’s to make me really, really appreciate my sewing room at home. I’m happy to have been able to sew at places besides home but . . there’s no place like home!

Please share what’s on your design wall or floor or . . what was on it any time during the week.

These quilts were already finished and will be donated next week to the Cane Cutters Guild in Houma, LA to go to the children’s home they support. All are in the 60″ x 80″ size range. These three have been shown here before but one last time .. here they are before finding new homes.

This is one that was done as a Quilt for an Hour project and is in Weekend Quilts with a different pieced border.

And, this last quilt, I have to tell you a funny story about it. Probably 6 or 8 years ago, the quilt shop had a beautiful Jim Shore fabric with Christmas santas on it. I bought enough for a backing and came up with this design to make for the top. It was quick and easy and great for a quilt I’d only bring out at Christmas. Used colors that were in the Jim Shore fabric – green, gold, purple, deep red. But, once I made the top, I totally forgot about the Jim Shore backing fabric and used something else. Later, I realized . . Wait a minute! That was supposed to have the Jim Shore fabric on the back. Too late. So, this quilt is being donated. It will help keep someone warm and I’ll eventually make myself a quilt and use that Jim Shore backing.

Once I finish the binding on the quilt I’m working on today, that will be 10 quilts ready to go to the Cane Cutters Guild in Houma and 10 quilts was my goal to donate to them in 2010. I will see some of the Houma ladies in Baton Rouge and handing the quilts to them will save shipping costs. Now it’s time to get crackin’ on the 10 QOV quilts I plan to donate this year.
