Here’s a closeup but it’s almost too big if you click on it.
Isn’t this a beautiful cake that my son made? He loves to cook and he likes to make things that are pretty, where I like to just throw things together that taste good . . without regard to presentation. Chad needed to make a presentation for one of his classes, probably Speech, and he decided to use this cake as brownie points his presentation. I don’t even know what kind of cake it is but Sunday, he read off the list of ingredients; I told him what we had on hand as he wrote out a grocery list for me. I shopped on Monday and he made the cake while I was gone yesterday.
Speaking of good food, I almost didn’t buy the pink bagels because I thought they had raisins (which I do not like at all!) but then the lady told me it was cherries and cranberries. Yummy and part of the sales goes to breast cancer research.
About the window treatment . . I do have blinds on those windows. I took down the swags and personally, I like it with nothing up there but it probably does look a bit naked. These blinds are 2-1/2″ wooden slats and while they’re not nearly as hard to clean as are traditional mini blinds, I have plantation shudders on all the windows in the front of the house. I believe those slats are 3-1/2″, maybe 4″ and they are so very easy to clean . . no strings — just those wide slats to wipe with a damp cloth. I love the plantation shudders better than anything I’ve ever had but I’m not about to change all the windows to those.

That cake looks sooooo YUMMY!!! Is Chad going to be a chef?
What happened with the storms? I hope everything is alright.
Yummy!
Judy, Is your son available??? I have an 18 year old who just ignores this cooking thing, I think she needs a guy like your Chad. Nice looking and likes to cook, how can a girl go wrong!!
The windows, I don’t think they look naked. I have similar in our family room and I haven’t been able to find the right window treatment, so for the last two years all we have had is cellular shades and now that I’m used to them, I don’t think I want to cover them up.

The cake looks delightful…and I’ll bet it’s good too.
I’ll vote with the light and airy crowd for the windows.
A friend of mine also took down her living room swags and replaced them with a painted shelf and carved wooden brackets. She got some nice baskets to put on the shelf which hold things not often looked at, and plans more interesting additions to the shelf in the future.
the shelf would also make a fabulous place to display a Christmas village or special collection.
I’ll bet Chad got an ‘A+” for his cake..er..presentation. it looks great!
The cake does look good. Adam is much better at presentation than I am – he taught me a thing or two along the way too. I miss cooking with him. It was something we did together for years, he helped me in the kitchen from the time he was little.
I think the shelf idea is a very good one. The display could be changed seasonally or however you’d want to do it.
I’ve just caught up on all your posts for this month. I don’t care if you say you’re disorganized-I think you’ve got some hours in the day the rest of us don’t have(VBG)
Seriously, Judy; you do accomplish a lot.
I want to learn how to knit socks. How and where can I go to do that?
Oooo that cake looks so good-lucky you.
My husband made all of our window frames when we built this house and I hate to hide them. Fortunately we live in a very secluded spot so in most of the rooms I have just put a little topper on a tension rod across the window so as not to lose the look of the lovely wood. The blinds come down at night and that’s all we need. I really love to be able to see out all day this way.
I’ll trade you some of my soup for a ice of cake!
What a delish looking cake! My son went thru a spell of cooking while his Dad was working out of town for 6 mos (he was 17 at the time). Like you son he was very particular about presentation. I’m more the “just get it done and on the table” kind lol. But sadly unlike you, mine doesn’t always taste so great
Hope the storms missed you last night….. I so don’t miss that kind of weather.
That is almost too good looking to eat.
I’d let that kid cook more often!
Hope you weathered the storms. We got over 3″ of rain…..stuff we did not need.
Beautiful cake – a piece of that cake and a cup of coffee would be perfect right now. Thanks for posting that beautiful picture.
Hi! It’s been a little while since I could read blogs due to being called in to sub so I’ve been having a ball wasting an hour on the puter’ getting all caught up.
That’s love for ya!
Love the cake!!! My middle daughter bakes also. Sometimes my hubby will go and buy all the ingredients for something he wants and has her make it.
What happened with the storm? When we lived in Texas we used to get major one’s as well. I would love to watch the weather channel to see the red parts on the radar get closer and closer. I absolutely love a good storm!! My kids get the biggest kick out of coming home and seeing me on the couch watching the radar like it’s prime time TV. Yep, I’m a radar nerd! hahaha
Oh, and I would love to have you send me the directions for the quilt!! I think I’m ready to dive in!!
Have a great day!
