I think I’ve finally arrived at the point where buying fabric isn’t fun.
The top picture was the pinks I pulled out to start the pink quilt. The bottom picture is the fabric ready to go back onto the shelves. I see there’s a bit of ecru on ecru mixed in there too but look . . I have made an entire quilt (actually it isn’t all made but it is all cut out!) and I didn’t make a dent in the stack of pink fabric. I wonder how many quilts I could make from my stash. No . . I do not want to know! I was reading the Pam’s newsletter from Real Women Quilt tonight and she has given away half of her stash.
I am not ready to give away my stash but I am ready to commit to not adding to the stash. If I truly need a fabric to finish a project, I will buy it but . . no more stash enhancing! As I look across the room at three shelving units full of fabric, I do see that there’s very little yellow, there’s very little pink. Who says I need yellow or pink in my quilts anyway? I’m sure I’ll have to add some ecru on ecru and white on white type fabrics but . . . no more stash enhancing!
I’ve been a member of various stashbusting groups through the years but that never really slowed me down. I’d still buy anything and everything I saw that I wanted. But I think I’m ready to commit to using what I have and not buying fabric just for the sake of having it.
I’m going to do it this time . . I’m going to use what I have and . . . no more stash enhancing!
