Productive Day

If every day could be like this one, I’d get a whole lot accomplished in the sewing room. My family had been warned that today and tomorrow, they’re on their own as far as food goes. We have enough leftovers to last quite a few days. I fixed breakfast and that was it! I went upstairs and loaded the dishwasher a while ago and that’s the only thing I’ve done in the kitchen since breakfast. Oh . . I did stir up a batch of the No Knead Bread to bake tomorrow.

First thing I did today was finish the pink quilt. I still have to quilt it and probably won’t be able to do that til Monday or Tuesday of next week. I have a customer’s quilt on the machine now. I think it turned our really pretty! It’s 66″ x 84″, made totally from the stash. I have a bolt of pink Eleanor Burns fabric so I washed a bit over 5 yards of that tonight and that will be the backing. I went ahead and cut the binding, sewed the strips together, pressed it so I all I have to do is sew it on and hand stitch it once the quilting is done.

When I finish a quilt, I usually throw all the leftover strips and squares in a scrap box, intending to cut them up into usable pieces but I rarely go back and do it. The “new me” is going to cut everything up as soon as I finish a quilt. So, I cut all the strips into squares. I had quite a few 3-1/2″ squares, 2″ squares and a few 2-1/2″ squares.

Then they all went into the appropriate plastic container. On the ends of the containers I’ve written the size squares. So when I need squares . . . here they are. I have them all the way from 1-1/2″ to 5″, all in separate plastic boxes.

Then I went back to work on Santa on Speed. I had taken it to mom’s to work on but had forgotten the red fabric at home. I called Chad and he sent me the red fabric. I never even worked on it at mom’s though. Then I managed to leave what I had assembled for the top so mom had to mail that to me. I surely was scatterbrained on this one.

I have to add the side borders (they’re already on the top and bottom), then it gets a red 2-1/2″ border, then a border stripe. Everything in this quilt except the Santa fabric in the border you see on the top and bottom and the border stripe, both from the Peppermint Christmas line by Red Rooster, came from the stash.

Tomorrow, most of the day will be spent at the longarm but I may just find enough time to finish Santa on Speed!

Wow, that pink one is dynamite! Pink is my least favorite color (unless that is orange), but I still love this quilt. Santa on Speed is coming out quite nicely, too. I think they’ll both be fun to quilt!

What a perfect day. The pink quilt turned out great – and I don’t even like pink! Looks much better in scrappy pinks. I do exactly what you are doing with your scraps – cut them and put them in sorted bins as soon as the quilt top is done. Santa on Speed looking great.

The pink quilt is great! I keep meaning to do the same thing with my scraps, too (i.e. cut them up and put them away right away…) but haven’t managed that yet.

And I adore Santa on Speed. The pattern, the colors! Love it!
