I didn’t buy any fabric or any yarn! Good job, huh?
I also didn’t get as much sewing/stash busting done as I had hoped. I got Santa on Speed quilted, using a “remnant” of extra wide backing fabric that had been laying around for a year or so. I had a customer send a quilt and she forgot to send her backing so I went digging through my stash and found this one. It didn’t work for her quilt but it worked great for mine. It was one of those pieces that I had washed and ironed several times, thinking I was going to use it. Then I wouldn’t use it and it would get stuck somewhere, get crumpled – I’d wash and iron it again (because it’s easier for me to get the wrinkles out when it’s just out of the dryer. Now it’s used — never to be stuck in the corner and crumpled again.
I did quite a bit of longarm quilting for others this week so I was fondling fabric — just not my own.
We had Christmas parties two nights and then I spent two days with friends. I’ve mentioned my friend in KC on here before. Last year when I posted on the APQS message board that we were moving to MO, Jeanne jumped in and sent me tons of info about the area — things I needed to know about getting my business name registered, getting our driver’s licenses, etc. She’s such a sweet and talented lady. I didn’t meet her until I was in KC for the Machine Quilters’ Showcase last May and then it was mostly for her to drive us all around town for dinner. We had been trying to get our husbands together so the four of us could have dinner but that never happened so Jeanne and I just planned our own get together. Wednesday I drove up to KC to Jeanne’s house. She’s involved in a group that makes quilts for a local children’s home. They had made 52 stockings for the home so she and I delivered those, along with some quilts and got a tour of the home. It’s so heartbreaking to think of what these children have been through but yet it’s so nice to have such a great place that takes them in. I was really impressed with the entire place. The people seemed so nice and the place was very, very clean and smelled so fresh.
Then Jeanne and I went to lunch and to visit another longarm quilter (Jeanne also has a Millennium) and then it was time for me to come home. Jeanne is such a sweet, sweet lady and her home is one of those homes where you feel at home when you walk in the door. Oh, her sewing area is to die for! She has a huge basement and I think the whole thing is being used for her sewing! She has tables and more tables and I saw at least four sewing machines set up, plus the longarm. And . . it was all neat and clean! I think I counted 15 sets of florescent tubing type lights in there. I’ll be going back soon and staying at Jeanne’s house for a couple of events coming up and I can’t wait.
Thursday afternoon I had a fellow quilter come here. A couple has moved to town and he works with Vince. Knowing what it’s like to be new in town, I invited her over and she came and spent the afternoon. We had so much fun and she’s invited me to her home to spend the afternoon this coming Thursday. She quilts, she likes to cook, she doesn’t like to shop and she loves dogs (although I figured getting bit the first trip to my house was not a good idea so I put Speck up). Sounds like she and I might get along just fine!
OK . . now you know what I did this past week! I think we have only one party this coming week and except for my afternoon with Diane, I’ll be quilting or sewing all week. I may even take Santa on Speed to her house to work on the binding while there.

Judy:
I really enjoyed your visit!!! I wish we’d figured our time better so we could have had more time to have fun. I need to drive down there next time, though I’m looking forward to your next visit!
I still haven’t remembered my password!
Jeanne from KC
I think you did great to get one of your own quilted, considering everything else you had going on this week. And now Santa on Speed won’t be languishing around as a flimsy til this time next Christmas!
Sounds like a busy week. Your visit with Jeanne sounded great, and a friend right near you sounds good, too. Things are settling out.
Judy,
Doesn’t it feel GREAT to finally use up that piece? Good job!
Well done!
