Chickens Have Landed

They’re here!  They’re so cute! I could sit and hold them all day but Speck . . just what I was afraid of.  He licks his lips and tries to get to them.  Thank goodness for the baby gate because he can’t get down the stairs.  He doesn’t like them at all and I doubt that ever changes.  Even when we’re all upstairs, his little nose is constantly twitching.  He smells them, he can hear them downstairs and he wants them gone!

I wish I could spend more time with the baby chicks without Speck getting so upset.

For now, they’re in a Rubbermaid container in the downstairs kitchen.  We got 6 Red Sex Links and 4 Araucanas  (all pullets) because I love those colored eggs!

Here’s a you tube video of them.  Please excuse the dog barking in the background . . what can I say?

Would You Look At This?

It’s the “Good Wife Award”!  I knew I was entitled to that!  My good friend, Sheryl, made it for me . . not my husband who was floating down the White River fishing and taking in the scenery while I was swatting wasps, discussing my hot flashes with Bubba, spraying Lysol in the non-working air conditioner that smelled like dead fish and threatening to pack and leave . . only I didn’t have a vehicle.  But, thank you, Sheryl!

Now, I think I’m entitled to . . a million dollars!  Getting that Good Wife Award was pretty easy . . let’s see how the million dollar request goes.

Exploring Our Area

The other day after dinner, Vince said “Let’s take a drive!”  Sounded good to me . . just so we don’t have to go shopping.  We drove out to the Four Rivers Conservation Area, about 12 miles from our little town.

It was so beautiful out there.  There’s almost 14,000 acres!  That’s a lot of land . . and a lot of water!

I thought this plaque was interesting . . mostly interesting that vandals haven’t ruined it.  There were quite a few plaques and monuments out there.

We passed this old farm that had been completely abandoned.  There were big brick pillars with a sign of what was the name of the farm but everything was in shambles.  Kinda sad.  Makes me wonder  . . Did the owners just get too old and give up because no one else in their family wanted to carry on?  Did they not make it financially?  It’s been abandoned for a while . . not a result of the current financial woes.  Maybe they sold the whole place to a developer and they made lots of money and the developer is waiting til the economy gets better to develop the land.  That’s a happy ending so I’ll just go with that one! :)

Quiltathon

Goodness . . I’ve been a chatterbox lately!  Earlier in the week when I said I was in a funk . . you know what I think it was?  Please don’t laugh . . promise . . no one is laughing?

Do you like to read?  Do you kinda feel lost when you finish a really good book and don’t have one all lined up to read next?

Since we live in a tiny little town, it isn’t surprising that we have a tiny little library.  I’m not complaining . . I love our town and our library but when there’s a book series, they may have #1, #4 and #6 and they rarely order new books.  There was three book series and they have #1 and #3.  I asked if they could get #2 . . about 18 months ago and they still don’t have it.

I love Debbie Macomber books.  I just recently fell in love with her books.  I bought, read and passed on to a friend 9 of the Cedar Cove series books.  Between what the library has and the ones I bought, I’ve read the Blossom Street series.  Right before we left to go to Arkansas, I found one hardback book with all of the Heart of Texas series.  I read the entire book while we were gone.

Monday I took it back to the library and found nothing I was real excited about.  It’s so hard to find a book when I don’t know what I’m looking for.  I ended up with a Stephanie Plum book.  I like her books ok but . . she’s not Debbie Macomber.

I think my “funk” was because of having finished such a great book and had nothing else to read.

But, what does that have to do with the Quiltathon?  I don’t have a clue!  Don’t forget there’s a Quiltathon coming up this weekend.  Get your cooking done; get your laundry done; get your dusting done; get the vacuum cleaner out and leave it in the middle of the floor.  It will look like you’re still cleaning!  If necessary, turn it on during your husband’s favorite TV show and he’ll be happy to send you back to your sewing room! :)   Don’t tell him I suggested that though, ok?
