Moving Day

May 24, 2009

This morning was designated as moving day.  Grab them, one at a time, out of their wooden crate . .

. . and deliver them to the new digs.   One down; nine to go!

They’re so happy to have the new space and new view of the world.  But they’re still going to hang out right by that little door where they entered the new quarters; and they’re going to stay all huddled together . . just for a while.

Soon they spread out and began testing their wings.

Why walk when you can fly?

I do believe they’ll sleep good tonight.

I hope they get better with their landings. They usually stop by running into the wire or landing on top of another chicken.

There’s still work to do.  Vince has to add a “lip” around the bottom to keep varmints from digging under and getting them and he has to move the wooden crate they’ve been living in back there where they can go into it at night and get closed up securely for the night.  He hasn’t been able to work on the big coop this weekend at all but eventually, it will be finished and the chickens will go in there at night.

I’m so happy to have them where they can run and eat grass and bugs and I’m betting they’re even happier than I am!

Your babies look very happy……..yup they’ll sleep very good tonight. Fresh eggs at Judy’s home in no time at all. It’s been fun watching the chicken adventures…….but I still can’t talk myself into having them here.

It’s a great picture of Vince and your “babies”. Being a city girl, I have no idea how long before chickens lay eggs. The new ‘digs’ for the kids looks great. Good work Vince and the entire family! Thanks for sharing the progress with us.

I wonder if Vince was thinking about eggs or a nice crispy drumstick? I think the girls are going to love their new digs!

They are getting sooo big. I’m sure they are happy, after all if MOMMA IS HAPPY…everybody in the house is happy.

Looks like they are pilots practicing take-offs and landings!!! I guess they won’t be bored with all the space they have now and they can run and play all day long. Thanks for the pictures of this momentous day!

My hat’s off to you Judy, I only survived having my chicks in the garage for a week before I sent them out to their coop! Yay you made it!
