Week 21 Stash Report

May 24, 2009

24 yards of new fabric came home with me this week.  24 yards of fabrics that are so “not me”.  Two charm packs and a small fat quarter pack of Critters by Studio E jumped into my luggage.  A little fat quarter bundle of Piggy Pirouette by Benartex caught my eye.  Last of the “I don’t know what I was thinking” fabric I bought . . a couple of bundles of Cosmo Chic by Benartex.   Another one that I don’t even see on the website is by Benartex and the line is “Where the Boys Are”.  I just don’t know what got into me when I was shopping.  Have you ever seen me use anything like these fabrics?  I’m going to use them .. just to show you that I can make something that isn’t just tone on tone.  I’m not sure when I’m going to use them but I am going to use them.

Anyway, here are my numbers:

Added this week:  24 yards

Used this week:  15 yards

Net year to date: 149 yards used.

I’m back on track.  No more adding!

How’s everyone else doing?

I could see using the Critters fabric, but the rest of that looks like something the Assistant would pick out, and she and I have different tastes! I’ll be interested to see what you do – maybe I’ll be able to use up the Assistants’ fabric like that!

I was bad… very bad… but had so much fun being bad and besides, birthdays only come once a year. And since my husband only gave me a card for my birthday… well… I deserved to be bad! He said he gave me a new hearing aid for my birthday… but I needed that… would have gotten it anyway… what’s with men?????

hmm…I wonder if anyone can psychoanalyze us based on some of our fabric choices, especially those “what was I thinking” ones.

Do you want more critters in your life, other than the chickens? Maybe that wedding quilt is having you think about making baby quilts or you want some ham to go with those eggs in the future? Sorry, can’t think of anything for the cosmo chic. other than your desire for a garden. Where the boys are – were you wondering what your boys were up to when you were at market???

Just kidding – you will amaze all of us with the quilts that you make with these fabrics and prehaps challenging us even more with a project to deal with “that” fabric that lurks in our stashes.

I bought some fabric too, and it’s not what I usually buy, so that’s good! We’re GROWING!

More fabric used so I’m still in the black. Judy I can see the cosmo chic working really well with all those tone on tones you have! And the bugs – they just make you smile with all their bright silliness. Some child would really love those – of if you feel the need to make a tote bag out of them I can always use a new one to tote stuff to and from work. :-)

WOW…I think Liz hit the nail on the head with the underlying deep reasons why you bought fabrics that really ARE out of character for you. I have no worries, though….because I know you will make something really nice with all of those new fabrics.

It sounds like you had fun shopping last week; I hope the quilts you saw were fabulous too.

congratulations Judy!
i never thought i’d see you buying the pre-cuts, so i’m glad to see you getting over that hurdle.
Once you find out how easy and quick they are to use along with your stash, a whole ‘nuther quilting world will open up for you.

I am a newcomer to the group. I started On Mother’s Day to reduce my stash. So far I have lost 11.5 yards with 1 yard of baock and whites coming in. Does it still count when I did not buy them myself???

posting a couple days late but made some progress just the same – I haven’t used the large amounts the most of you have but I am happy with what I am able to use and not buying.
Keep up the great job ladies!

I’m guessing the Pig fabric. Seems too cutesy for you (it would be great for me however– I’ve a thing for pigs and frogs)

Cosmo Chic by Benartex, yep that’s my guess! Can’t wait to see which one you choose.

Oh, hands down, definitely the Cosmo Chic. Gasp! I would have bet the farm you’d have never bought that, mush less used it! Can’t wait to see your finished project! xo

I’m going to guess Cosmo Chic. Not sure why, but that’s my guess.

I think the Cosmo fabric. Because of the colors than anything else.

I’m voting Critters because you make a lot of bright quilts and this would go well as a background. In fact I seem to remember that you had a lot of bright Tri-Recs pieces left from one of the QFAH projects. Those would go great with Critters. I hate to say it but that pink pig fabric makes me ill.

I’m guessing it’s Critters! Have no idea why. I’m enjoying the saga of the chicken coop :-)

I’m thinking you used Cosmo Chic first because it’s a bit of a stretch for you but not as wildly different as the Piggy themed stuff. (However, if you just used the florals from the piggy stuff along with some of your tone on tones, that would be a bit of a stretch, but not too much to leap either.) Hmmm…. I’m interested in finding out which you did use first.

I think you used the Cosmo Chic first…think I remember you talking about it on a previous post. Can’t wait to see how you used it and if I’m right!
