The ground meat marathon is over . . I blew it! At lunch, we were discussing what to do with the little bit of leftover spaghetti sauce. Chad had eaten the last of the meatballs and the last of the manicotti and Vince was saying “don’t throw out the sauce!” I said . . how about I add it to the Baked Ziti we’re having tonight? Great! That works. We were going to have Baked Ziti last night but I got home too late and grilled hamburgers instead.
But .. then . . I started laughing. I was just thinking thank goodness tonight is the last night this week of the ground meat marathon!
Wait . . I have to back up a bit. Yesterday I ordered a Kindle. The new one comes out next week and I had been kinda torn about whether to get the new one or get the current one but since I mostly just want to read books and will probably be happier with the smaller size, I wanted to go ahead and get the Kindle 2 instead of the Kindle DX. But, I hadn’t quite figured out how to tell Vince that I’d ordered it. I was going to tell him but I just hadn’t had the right opportunity yet . . if you know what I mean!
I knew he wasn’t going to be thrilled that I’d done it but I figured it was a gift to myself for having finished the book. That was hard work, you know? So, this morning I was showing the Kindle to Chad (online — mine isn’t here yet).
Well, I guess I have to back up farther. I got a new rice cooker this week too. I’d been wanting one and was sick of dealing with my old one. We did discuss this before I bought it so he can’t complain about it. And, it makes fantastic rice!
But, at lunch today, here’s how our conversation went:
Me: I have a confession to make (talking about the ground beef).
Vince: (Glaring at me!) DID YOU SPEND MONEY?
Chad is sitting there trying not to crack up because he knows about the Kindle.
Me: NO! Well, yes . . but that’s not the confession.
Vince: Do you think money grows on trees?
Now I’m cracking up so I just blurted out “I bought a Kindle!”
Vince wasn’t happy!
Then I told him about the ground meat marathon. He said (and I’m leaving out the four letter words!): We’re just a bunch of guinea pigs! We didn’t say anything about the ground meat every night because we’re just happy you came up from the sewing room to fix anything!
Wait just a minute . . I can’t remember anyone going without food in this house . . even though it might have been ground beef! Men! Good thing I didn’t tell him I almost bought a new iPod too!
I’ll go through the entries and see how many of you guessed “9 meals” and then I’ll do the drawing later this weekend.

OOPS!
At least you made it 9 days, I wouldn’t make it three. I have to tell everything I know.
I do have a question for you. What makes the rice cooker so good? I have always made my rice in a pot and a tight lid, and I thought it was fine. Maybe I am missing out on something.
I have been looking at the Kindle too, but I will have to wait a while. Let me know how you like it and if it is as good as it sounds. My husband told me I could buy an awful lot of books for the price of the Kindle.
Wellllllll……..just tell him at least you didn’t buy the NEW Kindle model!!!!!
But, but…..am I forgetting something or in the past, haven’t you mentioned that Vince likes to go shopping for hours at a time and that there are multiple printers in boxes, etc. Wait, didn’t you just write this in your man cave post…
“We have so much stuff! I’m bad about clutter but compared to Vince, I’m so neat! He just doesn’t notice clutter. He keeps buying more stuff because he can’t find his other stuff!”
Tell the dear man to chill – maybe the heat is getting to him…. He has been a sweetie, building that fine chicken coop for you. If he didn’t like the ground beef marathon, what is he going to do with all of the chicken eggs – the souffles, egg salad, eggs everywhichway for breakfast….
You need to relax and enjoy your kindle – I think you have earned it!
Judy, you guys are hilarious!!! I’m curious about the rice cooker too.
And ohhh how I want a Kindle but I’m not getting one.
You DO deserve a present after all the stress of the last few days/weeks/months–the book, the ipod, the chicken penthouse/coop, the hamburger secret, the lack of a/c in the car.
Yup…Vince is a fine one to talk with the way he buys duplicates of things he already has, because he can’t find his original ones! At least you aren’t buying a SECOND Kindle to replace one that is missing around the house! LOL Now…let me get this straight…….you were about to tell him about the ground beef but instead blurted out about the Kindle??? Why were you going to TELL him about the ground beef marathon??? Now you will be stuck with lots of it left in the freezer for awhile yet. hehehe I love the action around your place…or maybe it’s your retelling of it that I find so enjoyable.
I have to say that the iPod would have won the debate with me over the Kindle.
I love my current iPod, but I’d really love to have the iPod Touch!
I have never heard of a kindle and when I looked it up……..boy, am I missing out on things. I am so electronically challenged. It looks like a great gift and you deserve it,, Judy. Remember, you are the one that doesn’t like to shop……you are due for it, lol. If hubby complains, take him out to his Man Cave where he will probably see a few things he “had to have.”
I have the Kindle and I LOVE it. So here is the thing about the Kindle. The books are cheaper on the Kindle so you are really saving money. A brand new hardcover book goes for about $9.00-11.00 as opposed to $25.00 so you didn’t spend money you saved money. And the gas you save because you don’t have to drive to the book store! And the books you won’t buy cause you can review the first chapter for free on every book so you won’t buy a book you end up not liking. You are so gonna love it!!!!!!!
ROFLOL…. That’s good.
Hugs,
Melinda
I’m so glad you bought the Kindle2 I love mine and even though the DX has a bigger screen — what a pain to carry it around.
I’d love to hear how you like the Kindle! Am thinking about getting one, storage space for books in the RV is severely limited & I’d rather have the room for fabric. Please let us know how it goes!
I was told the IPod Touch will download the Ebooks just like the Kindle. Anyone know if this is so? My kids (adults) all have the IPhone and they download books on that. The Kindle is so nice but the IPod Touch is the size I like.
I’ve been thinking about buying a kindle. It would be perfect for traveling – I always take a minimum of 2 books sometimes more if it’s a long trip.
Plus, I’m a gadget junkie. I also love to visit Barnes & Noble – a kindle would probably save me a boatload of $$$ in the long run. Let us know how you like it.
Why were you going to confess??? I thought it was until Vince figured it out???
So, are we going to get storms this afternoon???
Didn’t you kind of blow the contest thing by telling him?
