Can I Move to Alaska?

June 18, 2009

Have I said lately that I do not like summer?  Just in case I haven’t . . I do not like summer! I want fall now! I want to see the leaves changing color; Chad packing to go back to school; the squirrels running around gathering nuts; Chad off at college . . I’m so ready for fall! :)

Yesterday I had a little road trip and I forgot . . well, I didn’t really forget . . I chose not to remember . . but the air conditioner in my car isn’t working so well.  I’d say it’s about 50% at best.  It started going out in the summer of 2007.  Yes, I’m just a bit slow with getting it repaired but I have a very good reason and since no one but me drives or rides in the darned car, who cares?  Vince might care since he’s having to listen to me complain but he only says “it’s your own fault for not getting it fixed!”  Like I don’t know it’s my own fault! :(

I noticed near the end of the summer in 2007 that it was going out but we had just bought the Highlander and the estimates I got for fixing my a/c was over between $2,500 and $3,800, depending on what they found had to be replaced, so I figured I’d just wait til the next summer (2008).  Last summer I planned to get it fixed but I have to take it to Joplin and leave it and that’s such a hassle.  Excuses, excuses!  I was going to Louisiana in August and really planned to get it fixed before I went but then I had the wreck in July and managed to schedule the rental car for my trip to Louisiana so by the time I got home and got my car back, it was almost September and heck . . winter was coming so why bother.

Well,  yesterday, my car sat in the sun, windows up, all day and when I got in it, I thought I was going to die! It was so hot . . and it didn’t cool off the entire hour it took to drive home.  I’m calling the Honda dealer in Joplin as soon as they open today and that rascal is going in the shop as soon as they can take it.

My sewing area, my entire house in fact, is a disaster.   The illusive iPod is lost again. It seems to be a summer tradition that I lose that darned thing.  Chad was at work last night and I tried to call him to see if they had some in stock and I was going to just go buy another one.  Then I thought . . if I can’t keep up with the one I have, why would I think I could keep up with a 2nd one.

I’m going to sew all day! I’m not leaving the house.  While I’m sewing, I’ll try to remember where I last saw the iPod and when if I find it, I’m never losing it again! :)

I have my old ipod if you need it.

Boy, can I relate – at least to the ‘I hate summer’ part. I told my husband last night that it’s time to pack up and head to our daughter’s in Colorado. Unfortunately, we can’t do that. Regarding the a/c in the car – I’m a bigger wuss than you – I wouldn’t have driven it a mile in the summer without a/c – well maybe a mile to the dealership.

Do you think when you were not looking Spike hid it, so when your not home he can curl up in his bed and relax to some tuns?LOL

After you find it, maybe you could tape a BIG pink feather to your Ipod so it will be easy to spot. Sorta of like the pens at the checkout registers so no one takes them……large, obnoxious and easy to spot!

I guess I”m the odd one here…as I LOVE summer and our weather is not looking summery yet at all….which is very odd for our area. If you’d like, you can send me some of your hot weather (not the tornadoes, though…okay?) I hope you find the iPod. Don’t buy another one or Vince will tell you that you are doing the same thing HE does…..buying a replacement for a gadget that is temporarily missing!!! Hope your car a/c is fixed for you soon.

Judy, perhaps you just need to come East a bit. Here on this part of the coast (Delaware), we’re having the wettest/coolest late spring in what seems like all history! Hope the ipod surfaces soon, I know how much having your own tunes helps concentration. Oh! How ’bout once it does appear, you make it a ‘purse’ of it’s own so you can wear it around your neck? The strap could be long enough so you could sling it across your body with the pocket area under one arm. I see folks at my gym with hook and loop strap “things” that keep their ipods attached to their forearms…. Good luck!

I’m going to Alaska on June 27 for a week so I will try and send you some cool weather! Checked the weather there this morning and while we are there it should be 67 to 72 degrees, some days have light rain. I am so ready for this!!

You’re from Louisiana and don’t like the heat…what kind of southern girl doesn’t like the heat…bring it on…We’ve had much cooler then normal weather here and I’m so not a happy camper. I would trade you the heat for what we’re having but I don’t want your bad storms, get enough of that on our own.

on your ipod…did ya check the chicken coop, maybe the girls are out the rockin’ out…just a thought.

I love summer – it is hot here in Georgia but thank goodness we have good air conditioning. I saw this chicken house today and thought of you – you might enjoy seeing it. http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/2009/06/ikea-home-for-chicks.html

I’m with you about not liking summer!!! I am so ready for fall and cooler temperatures. Both of children were born in Anchorage Alaska and we lived there about ten years while my husband was in the Air Force up there. I loved the cooler temperatures up there.

I also have a Honda CRV (2004) and the air conditioner went out on it last summer but lucky for us we had got an extened warranty and it didn’t cost us a penney. I was so thankful for that! I love air condtioning in the house and in the car.

Enjoy your day quilting.

I am still waiting for summer!! It is damp and chilly here. The weather man did slip in that we would get 80′s next week but I’m shivering now!! I hope you find your Ipod. I love mine, esp when I travel for in the car. Also listen to it while I read and drift off to sleep. I also love air conditioning. I would never have made it as a pioneer!

I wish we could go from Spring right to Fall. I would be very happy to skip Summer every year.

Have Chad buy you a new IPod cause then you will find yours and you can just take back the new one….

I’m so in with you on the “ready for fall” theme! I’m officially done with summer, and it’s really not even here yet. We’ve had a nice June, but no rain in MONTHS…and it will soon be 115-122 on a regular basis!!!

I hate the heat and the bugs but I love sunshine and we have not had much of that so far. Right now it’s pouring, and it’s depressing.
About the IPod, would it be easier if you put it in a dock? I saw one the other day that looked like a piggy bank. :-)

I’m with you too! I’m ready for fall – and our summer is just starting. We’ve had several days over 100 in May and are heading back to those temps this week. No rain in months, the summer monsoons have officially started, but not a drop of rain yet. I’m sure the Ipod will show, did you check the trash basket by the sewing machine? That’s always the first place I look for missing items! LOL

I hope you didn’t pack it up in that load of quilts.

I’m sorry you were hot. Should have gotten wet before you got in the car!

Come on up!!! It’s been cloudy and in the 60′s. Last summer we only saw the sun about 10 days. Hope it’s not like that again. We have had a nice spring.
I like to see the sun but I couldn’t stand the heat. Don’t know how you all take the heat!!!! We have an air conditioner in our car but it doesn’t get used very much.
Bring your machine and join me!!!!

My car ac was not getting cold and I got an estimate of over $2200 to get it fixed. I stopped at a local mech garage and he put new coolant in it for $100. The ac worked fine all summer. Each summer I had new coolant put in until I got a new car. It’s blazing hot here in central AR too.

Hi Judy, I have a better idea. You all come up and visit and bring your sewing machines and help me finish up some of my projects. I live in the most beautiful part of Alaska, on the Kenai Peninsula.

Forgot to say the car dealer said my compressor and some other component wasn’t working and I had a leak and several more things wrong with it. I’m so glad I tried the coolant fix first. Give it a try.

I don’t think you would want to go to Alaska. I have heard that there are blackflies and giant mosquitoes. Unless you plan on staying inside all the time. And if that’s the case you might as well stay where you are. I hate the hot muggy weather we get. I deliver mail and to me, it’s hot all the time. I’m hot right now and the a/c is on. I think we need a new unit and a furnace too but I don’t feel like spending the cash on that. I’d rather buy quilting fabric. Ha,ha,ha!
