The Good Dirt

This afternoon Carlini showed up with a load of the best garden dirt!  Carlini is Italian and he’s a funny guy.  Italians are funny . . especially the ones you don’t live with . . right Cindy?  :)

I gave him a loaf of white bread, a loaf of wheat bread and a dozen eggs and do you know what Sam said? Where are the brownies? Last year when he was bringing dirt, I gave him warm brownies! He’s coming back tomorrow so I guess in the morning I’ll be making brownies! :)

Bread Wasn’t Part of the Plan

This morning after weeding a bit, watering a few plants and tending the chickens, I had just booted up the downstairs computer and was deciding if I would piece or quilt.  That was my big decision for the morning.  This afternoon was the annual doctor’s visit so I wanted to have lots of fun this morning because the afternoon surely wasn’t going to be fun.

Vince called . . before I had decided whether to piece or quilt.  Big decision, you know!
Vince:  You awake?  (I do believe the man thinks I go back to bed every day and get up just before he gets home for lunch!)
Me:  Yes!  I’m awake!
Vince:  What are you doing?
Me:  Fixing to sew or quilt.
Vince:   Do you have some bread you can give to our friend who’s bringing dirt this afternoon?
Me:  I only have the extra loaf that I made for us on Tuesday.  (I make 2 loaves at a time so I don’t have to make it so much!)
Vince:  Can you give him that?
Me:  Or, I can make fresh.  Do you want white or whole wheat?
Vince:  How about both?

Yes, how about both since you’re not the one making it?  That made the decision easy about whether to sew or quilt!  I’ll do neither.  Ran upstairs, ground some wheat and made bread!  Two batches of white and two batches of whole wheat.  I had to get creative since I don’t have quite enough bread pans to make all that bread at once so I ended up with a combination of 9 full size loaves and 4 mini loaves.  Since I’m going to the doctor this afternoon, I’ll take some to them and since I went to the dentist yesterday, I’ll take some to them too.

Maybe tomorrow I can sew!

One Box!

All I needed was one wooden box!  This was the temporary coop that the chickens had when they were smaller.

It would be perfect for planting my potatoes.  I asked Vince if I could use the old box for the potatoes and he said no, he’d rather keep that to use as a chicken hospital since it has the roost and everything all set up for chickens.  I explained how I wanted to grow my potatoes and he said . . No problem!  I’ll get you another box.  This is what he brought home.

Just a bit more than I requested and that’s only half of them . . there’s another load coming.  Do I buy more seed potatoes . . like 400 pounds more?  Or, do I start a bonfire?  Yep, bonfire is what I’m thinking too.
