One More Quilted

The binding is going to have to wait because I don’t have enough fabric.  I believe I can still get the fabric so I’ll see if I can find it in Paducah before ordering more.

This quilt is Starlight Path from Nine Patch Extravaganza.  Nancy Miller made the quilt for the book but this is the one I made to test the pattern.  The Baptist Fans template was used for quilting.  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting was used.  It was a very old package of batting . . back when the Heirloom 80/20 was so fluffy and the perfect batting!  I love how this quilt feels!  It’s 81″ x 103″ and another UFO almost completed.  I guess almost completed means it’s still a UFO though!  :(

Brownies

This is the recipe I’ve used for quite a few years.  The icing makes them even better!  If you’re used to brownies from a mix, you’ll find these to be much thinner (as in not so tall) but they’re very, very good!

Ingredients for Brownies:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1tsp. vanilla extract
1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder

Ingredients for Icing:

3 T. butter, softened
3 T. unsweetened cocoa powder
2 T. honey
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. powdered sugar
1 – 2 tsp. milk or cream

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°.  Grease and flour an 8″ square baking pan.

In a medium to large saucepan, melt 1/2 c. butter.  Remove from heat.  Stir in sugar, eggs and 1 tsp. vanilla.  Stir in cocoa, flour, salt and baking powder.

Spread in pan.  Bake for 20 – 25 minutes.  Do not overcook!  (I usually test mine after about 16 minutes and rarely let them bake the full 20 minutes.)

To make icing:

Stir together 3 T. butter, 3 T. cocoa powder, honey, vanilla, and powdered sugar.  Add milk if necessary to get to spreading consistency.

Spread over warm brownies.

Come See Me in Paducah

If you’re going to Paducah next week for the big AQS Show, come by and see me!  Here’s where I’ll be signing books.  Even if you don’t want a book or already have your book, still come by . . I’d love to meet you and you know, I surely don’t want to be sitting around with no one to talk to!  :)

On Tuesday and Thursday from 1 – 3 p.m., I will be in the booth of Village Mercantile.  The Village Mercantile was my local quilt shop when I lived in Kentucky and I dearly love that shop.  Betty carries so much fabric and she always has her both at shows stocked to the gills too.  I heard there’s a coupon on the website that you can print and get a discount at her booth during the show.

The Village Mercantile booth will be located at 215 Broadway, right on the main drag in downtown Paducah. It is right in the middle of a lot of the restaurants downtown.

They will have both Nine Patch Extravaganza and Weekend Quilts.

The other place I’ll be is at the AQS sponsored Book Fair.  Other AQS authors will also be there.  This one is held Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the hallway between the Julian Carroll Convention Center and the Expo Center.  These joined buildings are located at One Executive Boulevard in downtown Paducah.

Hope to see many of you in Paducah!!
