A Quilt Along?

September 6, 2010

Anyone up for a Quilt Along?  For anyone not familiar with a Quilt Along, it’s where a portion of a pattern is posted and the participants have a few days to get these steps completed.  Then another set of instructions are posted and everyone can follow along or . . quilt along with others.

Here’s the quilt, which will be named “Note to Self”.  The name resulted from all the little colored Post-It® notes I found laying around as I was cleaning my sewing room.

With the borders as shown, the top will finish at 78-1/2″ x 90-1/2″.  With no borders, just the blocks and sashing, the top will finish at 58″ x 70″.  There are 7 borders.  The last narrow black “border” you see is the binding.  You’re welcome to do anything you please with the borders.

This quilt pattern will be called “Note to Self”.  According to EQ7, this is how much fabric it needs. I’ve found the latest EQ versions to be very accurate as far as yardage requirements but I would recommend getting  just a tad more if you’re buying fabric.  I hope you’re using stash fabric!

  • Cream (you could use different fabrics vs. just one) – 2-3/8 yards.
  • Black solid – 2-1/8 yards.
  • Black/white dot – 1-3/4 yards.

For the colored blocks, one 2-1/2″ wide strip across the width of the fabric will be enough for the dark section except the two center blocks.  They will need 2 extra 2-1/2″ dark squares but if you’re using those two colors for any of the other blocks, you’ll have enough left over from one 2-1/2″ strip to get what you need.  The light section is merely 4 – 2-1/2″ squares.  A great way to use some scraps!

The plan is that the first installment for the pattern will be posted on Tuesday, September 14.  Additional installments will be posted September 21 and September 28.  On October 5, a border “table” will be posted for those wanting to add the borders as they are drawn on the design.

Start digging through the stash and see what you can find that will work and be ready to start sewing on Tuesday, September 14.

I don’t think my calendar is going to allow me to quilt along -but I really like the simplicity of this pattern and know that the instructions for this will be saved for later on…. I LOVE 3M, too!! :-)

I am SUPER busy September and October but if you are having a quilt a long…I’m in regardless. I have LOVED all the others and I’m sure I’ll love this one too….I won’t love all those borders, but you have a way that makes them work the effort in the end.

This is a comment about the ants and the potatoes. Try crushed red pepper. It certainly worked in the house!!! I put it across their “trail” and it worked!

I’ll be playing with this one. I love it – and have scraps that will work. It looks like a great stash busting quilt.

Oh, Judy, I don’t have to “think about it!” I’ll TRY to quilt along with you, but if life happens and I get delayed, then I’ll have a UFO to get back to later. But I’m SO in on this. I love this design, and I love even more the story of how it came about ;-) Seven borders, yes, but not one of them’s pieced!

I will pull out the fabric from my stash and try to “quilt along” BUT you are doing it to me again.. just before I go on a weeks holiday. The last time I had 3 days to make a quilt, now I’ll maybe have 9 days.. good to work under pressure I guess.

I really enjoyed the Freeze Frame quilt along even if it did take me much longer to complete. ( I sent you a photo of the finished top, hope you got it ) I would like to try this one too but I know my current work commitments will mean I’ll be lagging behind again.

Sounds like a good idea. Great intentions but I sometimes have to file the ideas as life gets in the way. I’ll really try to keep up.

hehehehheheh. I got an email from you.. yesterday? Sunday? Anyway, the subject was “Note to self” and you went on to give instructions and I noticed the BIG numbers and I knew it didn’t have anything to do with me.

With anybody else, I would have tracked them down and demanded they explain. But I knew it was you so I just waited. See, I hadn’t read this post yet. So I was confused. Now I’m not.
