Socks Knit Along

October 23, 2010

Don’t forget we have a Sock Knit Along starting November 1. Do you have the book or pattern you’re wanting to use? Do you have your yarn? Got your needles? Got your reservation at the resort?

Use any pattern or book you want.  The technique in the Kntting Circles Around book by Antje Gillingham is what I’m going to be using and just knitting plain socks.  I’m going to be knitting another pair of plain socks on the DPNs.  I still haven’t finished my first pair of two at once socks but I’ll get  them finished before November 1.

In the next few days I’m going to decide which yarns to use and I’ll post a picture of my yarn and do a link box so you can share your yarn.

If you’re still on the fence about doing it or not . . just do it!  :)

I’m in, but probably won’t really get going until the 7th. Got the Christmas Quilt show and sale on the 6th. I’ve not done socks since 1951 and I’m trying toe up, 2 at a time. Talk about a challenge!

I have the book and need to get the needles and see if I have yarn in the basket that will work. I think I do!

I have the pattern, yarn, needles and have figured out how to get the stitches on 3 needles to knit in the round. Boy, was that a challenge and some naughty words said. Every time hubby would ask me if I had it figured out yet, he could tell by the look I gave him. The last time, I had a smile!! The heel part seems really hard to do but I trust you will guide us through it. Thanks Judy for offering a knitting class to make socks. I am looking forward to it.

I’m doing my best to finish up the socks-in-progress before then. I picked up 3 skeins of “Heritage” by Cascade Yarns at PurlSoho when we were in New York City earlier this month. Since I haven’t worked with these before, I’m anxious to see how they feel, work up, etc. They sure felt good when I was petting them in the store—and when I’ve petted them since getting home. It’s really, really hard to stay focused on getting 2nd socks done to finish up pairs when there’s something new just waiting to be played with!! LOL!! Eve

I checked the “Knitting Circles …” book out of the library. I’m a little confused on yarn. I have some self striping yarn I got ages ago. How do I tell if it’s the right weight?

I’m hoping your knit-along will get me going and not be scared of socks. I love all the yarns I see in the stores, but have told myself ‘no more’ until I learn to knit a pair of socks. Then watch out…

Yes, I’m ready. Have book, yarn, needles and I’ve read the instructions through once. I hope to skip through two socks at a time like tiptoeing through the tulips. Actually, it’s more like a race coming out of the gate – I’m ready to go / learn sock knitting!

I just finished my second pair and I have been wanting to try the two at a time. I already have the book and 3 sets of needles so that I can get the right gauge. :)

What happened to Sock-tober this year? Too much other stuff going on?

Ready for the most part! I need to shop around for the circular needles… seems I can always find one size that is the right length, but finding the second… not so much. In fact, I haven’t been able to find the lengths stated, and may have to go with longer ones (I think it says to get 26″ and all I can find are 29″).

I’ve been wanting to start knitting socks and have the book and all the stuff ready, but I was hesitant because I didn’t have anyone to direct questions to. Now I do!! I’ll join the knit-along!
