Design Wall – December 20, 2010

December 20, 2010

My design wall is probably not very inspiring!

It looks like I was making a design on there but I wasn’t.  This is just the components to the next quilt.  All the pieces — half square triangles, flying geese, four patches, etc. are done.  My goal is to get this top done this week, the last top done next week and be able to start 2011 working on quilts I can share on the blog.  It’s been a long, dry spell of not much quilting I could show but that’s what happens when there’s a book in the works.  Almost done . . things will change soon.  Once the book comes out, you’ll be able to say “I saw those pieces!”  :)

What’s on your design wall?  Anyone even sewing or is everyone shopping and cooking?

Yup, it will be nice to see more of your quilts on the blog…have you said when the book is scheduled to come out or is that too far in advance to know?

It is fascinating how different everybody works: I usually need to finish at least a block before I go and make sub-units. I know it takes longer, but helps me to keep motivated. Looking forward to your new book!

Thanks again for hosting, Judy……….it’s such a busy time of year, surprising anyone gets things done, let alone all those pieces and a goal for the end of the week! Yipes :)

You *have* something on your design wall. At this time of year, I think that’s inspiring enough! My sewing is all stuff that’s been on the design wall and really has no business being talked about. Santa might not like it! Have a great day, Judy! :)

Well, I’m not shopping or cooking, lol. We’re coming to Kansas for Christmas, so I don’t have to cook and my shopping consisted of sewing this year, so that’s all done as well.

Love all the little pieces/parts. I can’t wait to see them in the quilt!

Still finishing up gifts here, Judy. Starting to bake some cookies today too. Love seeing all of your pieces waiting on the design wall. Usually I keep mine in piles or little baggies so I don’t lose any in the process. But then again, it can take me months to work on a big quilt instead of a week – short attention span:) Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Healthy, Happy New Year!

Judy I got to use your binding technique yesterday and I really like it. I usually put the binding on the back and bring to the front and top stitch down. It took a little longer to do the pinning, but I like that the stitch is hidden on the front. Thanks for sharing the tip.

Keep us posted on your new book!
I’m planning to review the ways to make all the pieces that are on your design wall with my group. 4-patches, half-square triangle blocks, flying geese, 9-patches etc. If you learn the basic building blocks, you can make just about any quilt!

That’s a lot of half square triangles Judy! Good luck on finishing up the last couple of quilts for your book. I’ll be looking for it when ti comes out next year!

And this is my last design wall of the year. Next Monday I will be on the road, headed home, after a fun Christmas in MD with our youngest son and his wife and dog. And my design wall will still be the same as today. So Merry Christmas and I’ll see you in the new year.

Oh, we’re shopping and cooking but there’s always time to quilt–just a little at least. We’re on the home stretch for the Big Day everyone. As for me, my Big Day is tomorrow. . . my birthday! Hubby’s taking me to the wine country overnight, even made a hotel reservation all by his lonesome. Won’t tell me where–it’s a surprise. What a doll!!

I have nine digitized Minkee reindeer blocks on my design wall this morning, and I hopefully will have the quilt top done by tonight. :0)

I love what you are doing Judy with Design Wall Monday. I think it is a great way to bring quilters together where we can share what we are up to. It is so fun to see all the creativity flowing.

We’ll all be watching as this quilt comes together. I’m clearing the trails, putting away the decoration boxes and making my Christmas dinner Preparations too I have one family to come and stay…need to make it look a little more like there is “Room at the Inn” at Grandma’s house. My wall is my Church Pew that needs you opinion on what to cover it with to look more Christmas-y. I have two choices to pick from- HELP!

Congrats on your blogiversary! I can’t wait to see the quilts you have been secretly working on the last few months. After the holiday I am going to see whats lurking in my UFO box. I have several quilts to machine quilt and I’m not sure I could finish them in one month so I don’t know if I should attempt your UFO challenge.lol

I find it hard to sew this time of year. But soon……….. busy with cooking, shopping, cleaning etc. Lots of work for one day and then after everyone leaves you have to clean again! LOL
oh well, the price we pay to spend time with loved ones.
Hope you and yours have A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
and if your Christmas wish is anything like mine, I dont want “things”, just more time to sew and play in my fabric. That would make me one happy gal Santa!
