Self-Discipline

You may have guessed that I’m pretty lacking when it comes to self-discipline!  With the new loom and wanting to work in the yard and start new quilts and play on Electric Quilt, there’s a voice I keep hearing.  It started out low and kind but lately, it’s been getting louder and downright angry!  I don’t like angry voices!   Get the book finished!  Stop procrastinating!

Seriously, I’m not hearing voices so please don’t call out the men in the white coats.

I detest procrastination.  If there’s something to do . . get it done!  It just hangs over my head like a weight and and even when I’m weaving or knitting or working in the yard, I’m thinking  . . I should be working on the book!

Thursday night while having one of my late night conversations with my friend, Sarah, I was whining about not having it done and Sarah was admonishing me for not having it done so yesterday morning I said to myself that I was going to get two of the quilts completely edited and if I do two per day, by the middle of next week, I’ll be done.  It isn’t due til May 15 so it’s not like I’m late but I’d like to have it done by April 15 because . . well . . I just don’t like deadlines or procrastination.

Friday morning I headed straight downstairs to get those two quilts done and I didn’t stop til I had four of them done!  Here’s a screen capture of the pages I’ve written and edited so far.  67 pages!  7,711 words!  Progress surely feels good!

Ouch!

My Red Star chickens consistently lay large eggs and my Easter Eggers . . well . . one inconsistently lays small green eggs and the other one consistently lays nothing!  Every now and then, I get a huge egg from one of the Red Stars.

The two green eggs, especially the one on the left back side, are small.  The brown eggs are big but look at that one next to the little green one on the back row!  That egg is HUGE!  The cartons are for XL eggs and I had to remove four of the eggs in this carton because they were too big but dang .. that one next to the little green one is just too big.   I feel bad for the chicken that laid that one but they all seem perfectly fine so I guess it didn’t bother her too much.

Dish Towels

As crazy as it will sound, the main reason I wanted to learn to weave was to make dish towels.  Tuesday afternoon I loaded the warp threads to make three dish towels. My niece and her family are big LSU fans so these towels will be for her.  By making the warp threads long enough, I was able to plan how I could get three towels without having to reload the warp threads.  The yarn is bamboo. The three towels are separated by waste yarn.  Once the towels are washed and dried, I’ll doe some type stay stitch on the machine or maybe serge the edges, remove the waste yarn and hem the towels by hand.

Tuesday afternoon I made the first towel before dinner.  Tuesday night I went to bed and kept thinking about weaving so I got up and finished the second towel.  Yesterday morning I got the third towel done.

All three towels have the same warp design but they each have different weft (horizontal) yarn sequence so they’re kinda all the same but kinda different.

Here’s the first one up close:

And the middle one:

And the last one.

I can hardly wait to see what these look like finished.  I sure hope I like them because I bought large cones of thread and have enough thread to make dozens more!
