37 More Days

How time flies when you’re having fun.  Seems like just yesterday I had 50 days left before the move.  Oh . . wait!  That was yesterday.  Today I had a long talk with my relocation consultant.  I thought July 8 was the magic day and I had to stay 30 days after July 8 but I can actually leave on July 8.  That’s the story for today anyway.  Tomorrow they may tell me I have to stay 30 days after July 8.  That’s kinda how things have happened with this move.

We called United and we’re on the calendar for packing on July 25 and 26, loading on July 27 and 28 and arriving in Texas some time the first week in August.

That brings us to another issue.  Where will they unload my stuff?  That’s a very good question.  They can store it for up to 60 days, then pick it up and bring it somewhere.  Surely by then we’ll have found a place.  Putting my fabric, longarm, mattresses, etc. in storage is not what I want to do so hopefully we’ll find a place or . . maybe I will just stay here til August 8.  Actually, I guess it’s only about 2 weeks difference between July 28 and August 8 but 2 weeks is probably three grass cuttings!

No matter . . 37 days sounds better than 50 days.

Tomorrow morning is our “major component” inspection — roof, plumbing, who knows what all — I’ll be so glad when it’s over.  We’ll be completely done with inspections, appraisals, etc. once the inspector leaves tomorrow.  I’m sure he’ll find some things to fix — they always do but at least that part of this adventure is winding to an end.

Dandelion Parade – Step 5

The main portion of the top should now be made and it’s time to work on borders.  There are 6 borders, with one of those being a pieced border.

The original fabric requirements suggested using Fabric 3 (med/dark yellow) for the pieced border background but any yellow can be used, along with the different purples used in the top.

This is the block for the pieced border and it measures 4″ finished or 4-1/2″ unfinished.  Make 56 blocks for the border:

For each block, using your favorite method, make 1 Flying Goose that measure 2″ x 4″ finished or 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ unfinished.

Also, using your favorite method, make one half square triangle that measures 2″ finished or 2-1/2″ unfinished, together with a 2-1/2″ square.

For the side borders, sew together 15 blocks, turning them in different directions.  For the top and bottom borders, sew together 11 blocks, plus the two for the corners, also turning them in different directions.

For the non-pieced borders, Fabric 2 (light/medium yellow) and Fabric 4 (dark purple) were suggested.  Use whatever fabrics you desire.

The measurements listed below are the cutting/unfinished size to be created for the borders.

The finished top should measure 64″ x 80″ finished.

More Red Cross Checks

A few more checks for the Red Cross came in last week totaling $225 and were delivered this morning bringing the total received to $11,470.

Twelve quilts have been delivered to Joplin residents and the following quilts have come in and will be delivered on my next trip to Joplin.  I will continue to update with links on the Help Joplin tab above.

Also, I forgot to post about the bags that Nancy’s group sent.  I think I counted 16 of them and I took a picture but it’s not on this memory stick so as soon as I find it, I’ll share that photo.  They’re nice bags made by a group at a senior center.  I’m hoping to track down where the folks went from Greenbriar Nursing Home and give the bags to them.  Quite a few residents there didn’t survive the tornado.

This quilt was sent by Shirley:

The following 9 quilts were sent by friends of Kelly Ann.

Thanks again to everyone!

Design Wall Monday – June 20, 2011

The main part of the pink Carpenter’s Star is what’s on my “design wall”.  The half square triangles are made for the border so it should be finished by the end of today!

What’s on your design wall?
