The Everchanging Date!

This move has to be the craziest move we’ve ever made.  It’s no one’s fault . . just a combination of lots of things that have made it so frustrating.  The original date for me to leave was June 6.  That was way premature so we canceled that date and advised the movers we would let them know a date when we knew more.  A few weeks ago, we decided on July 25 as the day the packers would come and get started and they would leave with our stuff on July 29.  Since we have no house and I will be moving into Vince’s rented 400 square feet “bungalow”, we were going to put all our stuff in storage.  Then we decided that was crazy.  Unless our house sells, I can stay here til October 8 so we decided to put off my leaving til around October 1.  We never called the movers to cancel because they only had us penciled in for July 25 and said we needed to let them know for sure by July 15.  When Vince was here last week, the whole time he was here, he was busy working — cutting weeds and trimming and he decided coming home was no fun since he had to work so hard the few days he was here so he decided to leave the move date at July 25 and put our stuff in storage.

Today we found out that Chad’s tonsillectomy is scheduled for July 20 and it’s going to cost us $2,500/month to store our furniture/fabric/yarn if we leave it in storage more than two months.  The doctor told Chad he can’t lift more than 10 pounds for at least 10 days, he can’t bend over or do anything stressful so him trying to move all his stuff out and into an apartment on July 28 and 29 was going to be pushing it a bit close so our move date has been changed.

For now, and I hope there are no more changes, the packers will come on August 8 – 10, load on August 11 and 12 and leave with our stuff then.  It will have to go into storage but hopefully for not longer than two months!  That gives Chad an extra 10 days to recover (a total of  21 days from surgery til he has to move) so he should be back to normal by the time he has to do heavy lifting.  Hopefully the house we’re wanting will be available by mid-August and we won’t have to spend too much time separated from our stuff . . and hopefully we won’t spend much time in the bungalow!

And my biggest hope of all . . once we get moved into a house  . . we never move again!

More Joplin Donations

The lady at the Red Cross office here told her friend at the local newspaper about our efforts to raise money for Joplin and one of the reporters came to the house to do an interview.  I thought he was going to talk to me for a few minutes, take a picture and be done.  No!  He was here over two hours.  We talked about all kinds of stuff.  I enjoyed visiting with him . . an interesting guy.  He wanted to see my sewing room.  Oh, my . . I hadn’t planned on doing that.  Then he wanted to take a picture of me at the longarm and I didn’t have a quilt loaded so I tossed one over the poles to kinda make it look like a quilt was on the machine.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the article – didn’t know how large or small it might be or where it might appear in the paper so you can guess my shock when my picture appeared on the front page – covering a huge chunk of the front page.  Yes, it’s a tiny local paper but it was still a funny feeling to be standing at the gas pump putting gas in my car and see me staring back from the front page of the newspaper in the paper racks.

It was all of you who donated who should have been on the front page . . not me.  All I did was give out my address and those of you who donated did the rest.  But, several local folks called and wanted to donate so I’ve received another $275.  The total received is $11,745.

More quilts should arrive tomorrow and will be donated on my next trip to Joplin. I’ll keep you posted and the updates will be on the “Help Joplin” tab at the top.

Mr. Kitty All Grown Up

Do you remember almost two years ago when we found a cat living in our garage?  Chad named him Mr. Kitty and though the kitten was quite wild, Chad managed to get him into a box and while trying to put him into a small crate, Mr. Kitty escaped.  Chad called him and we left food out for a while but we didn’t see him.

Chad was out last night right at dusk and he called me to come outside.  This cat had been hanging around out there and while Chad couldn’t get close to him, the cat just sat at a distance and watched Chad for a while.

We think it could be Mr. Kitty all grown up!  There’s a definite resemblance!

Chad was determined to get close to him.

Chad crawled on his belly, meowing . . trying to keep Mr. Kitty from noticing that he was sneaking up on him.

Looks like Chad is taking after Vince in the wardrobe department.  Notice the holes in the armpits of his shirt?

So close but . . no deal.  Mr. Kitty walked away. It was kinda funny to see the same cat hanging around 2 years later . . or else it’s a cat that looks a whole lot like Mr. Kitty.
