October UFO

October 1, 2011

Welcome October!  Welcome cooler weather . . maybe even a little rain .. please?  Welcome shorter days.  Yes .. I love fall and winter and I am happy to send summer on its way somewhere else . . though I don’t think it will move terribly far from central Texas and I fear it will return way before I’m ready to see it again.

How are those UFOs coming along?  Anyone got 9 of them finished that you wouldn’t have gotten finished except for the challenge?  You know I didn’t but there’s always next year.  I just looked at my list and I’ve completed 4 (finished, bound and most have been given away) but each month except for a couple of months, I worked on the pieces and I think if I really work hard, I will finish this year having completed 9 of my 12 projects.  Unfortunately I created a few more UFOs throughout the year but probably less than 9.  That’s good, right?

We are going to do the UFO challenge again in 2012 and I have a more fun plan for the monochromatic challenge.  It’s not monochromatic but it has to do with colors.

The UFO number for October is #5.  Find your list and dig out number 5.  If you don’t have your list, you can go here and if you added your link, check to see what your project is for October.

Mine is this — a simple quilt to finish . . if I know where it is.

If you finished your UFO for September, which was #11, please add a link here!

I haven’t finished nine, but some of mine are long term projects that I didn’t intend to finish. Next year, I have a few projects that the fabric has been waiting for way too long for me to use, and I’m going to work on those!

Yay for a 2012 challenge! I haven’t finished 9 projects, but I have completed my goal 8 of the 9 months and I’m pushing to finish that 9th project before the end of the year. Thank you so much for motivating me yet another month to dig out stuff I should have finished a long time ago. It’s a wonderful feeling to finish and it’s taught me to think through a project before starting – if a project has no place it needs to go, it often gets abandoned halfway through – and I haven’t started anything since January that I don’t intend to finish and give away!

I’ve finished 6 and have one well underway…hope to get to 9 by year end! Thanks so much for hosting this challenge – I know I wouldn’t have touched several of them without it.

Hi Judy
I have been following along with the UFO challenge. Most months I have got one or more UFO’s completed. There were a couple of months I only got half a UFO completed. But overall I got a lot done. It has made me happy to get these quilts done and passed along to where they were going. I will definitely follow along next year. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone else’s UFO completions as well. Thank you.
P.S. I did create a few more UFO’s but also managed a few completed quilts from start to finish. I guess it is just the circle of a quilting life.

I had a double list. One list was for tops ready to be quilted and the other list was for what I call “true” UFO’s. They were in various stages of construction.
I’ve finished 16 so far this year! Thanks Judy for helping me get so many done.

I caught up this morning and have finished all nine challenges — although three of them are only completed quilt tops, still UFO’s. Thanks for the motivation Judy!!

I’m with you, Judy, I only have gotten 4 fully completed UFO projects. But I have worked on all of the others, happily. Since all of my UFO projects were for ME, it was natural that quilts for other folks ended up coming first in the sewing queue! The number drawn for this month is what I swapped out for the last draw, but my daughter is getting married this month and I know I will not get the UFO finished. I am really glad you’re going to continue the challenge next year. I know most of my UFOs would not have gotten worked on without the push, and am really happy that my two oldest UFOs–one more than a decade aged–did get completed!

I didn’t get a finished in September, but I do have 9 quilts “finished” — 5 off my get it to a top list – 4 which actually have been quilted, bound and labeled — plus 4 off my get it it quilted list for a total of 8 quilts completed. I don’t think there is anything on this list that I would have gotten around to without the challenge. Next year though, I think I’m going to limit myself to just one list of 12 – with the option of substituting another UFO if the need arises.

Thanks so much for doing this.

I didn’t get a single one finished but I did get to work on most of them. This month, however, I will get a finish because my #5 UFO is an easy finish! I just need to finish quilting and bind. Unfortunately, I ended up creating more UFOs than I got completed. The good news is that most of those are suppose to be Christmas presents so they will be done before the end of the year still.
I, too, appreciate the push to complete things that are languishing… thanks, Judy!

I am happy to say that YES, I have finished ALL 9 of my UFOs so far just because of the UFO CHALLENGE (but in some cases, finishing the TOP is a finish for me!)

I didn’t quite get done thanks to having an unexpected trip to VA but I brought the quilt to Maine with me and it just needs the binding stitched down by hand and i’ll be caught up.

I’ve finished 2 and worked on 6 altogether. Glad you are doing this next year. Maybe I can get some more done.
