New Book Will Be Here Soon

Today I received an email from AQS that my new book, 60 Pieced Quilt Borders, will be shipped to me in the next day or so.  This means orders will begin going out as soon as the books arrive.

If you haven’t pre-ordered your autographed copy and would like to do so, or would like to read what I wrote about it when I began taking pre-orders, you can do that here.

It’s gonna be a good one!  :)

No Carpet Monday

So . . you all got up this morning and the first thing you thought was . . Judy is getting her carpet today! Right?  Wrong!  I’m sure I’m wrong that no one was thinking that but if you were, you’re wrong . . no carpet today.  It’s a sad, sad story!  :(

The sewing room is built in the existing shop.  The door on the side of the shop leads into the sewing room — directly into the sewing room without a porch, without an entry of any kind.  It rarely rains here but when it does . . it seems to rain for days and along with the rains come hurricane force winds . . and thunder and lightening.

The first and only time it has rained, prior to yesterday, since we’ve had this place, the door leading to the sewing room leaked.  The way they built it, the door is just there . . there’s no step down of the concrete or anything.  Vince told our builder that the door had leaked and he changed out the bottom — I don’t know what you call it — and put new seals around the edges.  Then it didn’t rain any more til last night.  It thundered and it blew and it poured.  About 11 p.m., Vince said . . I’d better go see if that door leaked.  Neither of us wanted to go . . we feared what we would find.  Finally, he said “Yes, I must go check!”   He was gone forever.  I knew that either (a) something got him or (b) there was water in the sewing room.  I was hoping nothing had got him, and I figured after about 10 minutes, that had not happened because they would have returned him but I was really hoping there was no water in the sewing room.  It was still pouring.  I had taken Speck out for his last trip out before bed.  He sank in the sandy mud up to his knees (which isn’t very high for a dachshund) so he had to have a bath.  I did that.  It was still pouring.  Vince still wasn’t back so I decided I’d better go out there. Yep . . we were mopping up water at midnight.  Vince put plywood against the outside of the door to cover it, then put a tarp over all that, then put a bucket of wheat in front of the door . . which I still haven’t figured out but wasn’t going to ask questions at that point.

This morning we called and cancelled the carpet installation til we can get something else done to the door.  The builder said he’ll chip out some concrete or build a porch there or put up a storm door or . . all three of the above but nothing can be done til it stops raining . . Wednesday according to weather man.

It could have been worse.  It could have happened after the carpet was in or this could be all happening the day before we have to have all our stuff out of the rental (which I’m hoping is dry!).

So . . how much did it rain?  Remember that we have very sandy soil and it takes a lot of rain before we even have puddles. Water just sinks into the ground here.  This is my front yard.

This is how we walk to get to our cars.

This is where our driveway will eventually be.  Water everywhere.

We so desperately need the rain.  I’m not complaining about the rain.  I am complaining about my leaking door.  I had so hoped to be putting fabric on shelves tonight . . not gonna happen!

Design Wall Monday – January 9, 2012

What I have to show today is the picture I shared last week from the Color Palette Challenge.  I’ve gotten all the blocks made now but this is about as far as I’ve gotten with getting the rows together.
