January Color Challenge Top
The blocks are all together for the January Color Challenge Top:
It’s pretty now but wait til you see it with the borders and more importantly, when I can get a picture in decent light. The fabric that looks like a greeny yellow (like something a bird would leave on your car if you parked it under a tree!) has been in my stash forever. It’s probably one of those fabrics that I ordered online on sale — a good name brand quality fabric but my monitor must have been really bad because no one would have bought this fabric if they had seen it in person but it’s perfect in this quilt. In fact, it’s one of those fabrics that I’ve probably thought of donating — it’s too light and too oh, my goodness . . why did anyone choose this color to use for a backing but now that I’ve used it in this quilt, I’m sorry I’m going to use it all. Is that crazy?
Same thing with the teal/turquoise color. I’ve had it forever and it just isn’t a color I use much but it was perfect for this quilt. These are colors I would never have put together but the greeny yellow, which I think I’ll call “bird drop yellow” is almost exactly the color of the walls in the extra bedroom — the room where I sew. Maybe this will be the new quilt on the bed in there.
Did I already say . . wait til you see it with borders? It’s going to be so pretty . . if I do say so myself!

Cant wait – Love your work!!! I’m thinking about doing a colour challenge with my quilting ladies – there are only 6 of us – but it would be good to do to donate the quilts perhaps? Just in case the colours weren’t to their liking. Might have to think about that for the September retreat !
Now…please don’t tell me you might even consider calling this quilt “Bird Droppings”!!!! LOL It looks very nice and I know you do spectacular borders, so I can’t wait to see the top totally pieced!
It is so pretty, Judy. I love it. I can’t wait to see the borders.
I love those colors, Judy! Sometimes we just have to put things together, stand back and say…that looks good!
It’s beautiful Judy! So ARE you going to call it “bird droppings”? LOL
Judy, I love it – love the colors but then teal and green are two of my favorites.
I love this quilt already! I don’t have the time to actually do the color challenge (and my stash isn’t at all organized), but I think I’m really going to enjoy it. Vicki has such a wonderful color sense. What a team you two make!
It is really beautiful! Can’t wait to see the borders.
Not that you asked, but I think “Bird Dropping” would be a great name for this quilt. It would have to be an inside joke, of course. It’s truly beautiful!!
Very nice!
I Love the turquoise, am collecting shade of turq. , purple, sage and ivory for a planned quilt in the future…
It’s very pretty! That green is really great in it.
It is beautiful and I love the colours.
It’s already pretty.
Wow! The center went together quickly. It’s interesting to see the blocks with the context of the couch. They look bigger than I thought they were based on the 2 photos from the other day. I can’t wait to see what your borders are going to be.
The blocks are 10″ finished.
Pretty…..can’t wait to see it with the borders. You have a unique way of describing that green fabric.
Thank you! Or, was that not a compliment?
I love those colors. I’m working on collecting them for a small project. Thanks for showing us Vickie’s site. I’m enjoying her color class on Fridays.
“Bird-drop yellow” is such an Elizabethan color name– like “oxblood” or “ashes of roses.” I like it!
Beautiful! I can’t wait to see it with borders!
Can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
I really like it Judy!!!
I was looking up Elizabethan color names at this website
http://www.guildofstmichael.org/lizcolor.html
and here’s the Elizabethan color for bird-drop:
“Goose-Turd: Yellowish green”
How funny is that!
So is this quilt getting one of the 60 Borders from the NEW Book!??? I’m waiting to get mine in the mail this week…Did they come yet?
I managed to get my colors pulled but haven’t put them together yet. I am so in love with your quilt. I love the colors and worked hard to match as close as I could. You did Great!
OK now I am going to go and piece together my 144 little squares – I have stalled on this project but NO MORE.
Wow, it’s gorgeous, and so fast! I just picked up a little of my fabrics Tuesday. I’m going to have to do something on the small side for this first month. Looking forward to seeing the borders.
This is so pretty. That yellow looks perfect for showing up the other colours.
Where do we post our completed COLOR CHALLENGE PROJECTS for January?
Thanks!
