Patchwork Time Retreat

February is almost here and then it will be no time til we all start gathering for the retreat.  Today while we were out running errands, I ran into the hotel manager and he said they are looking forward to having us and you know I’m looking forward to meeting all of you!

If you are flying into Austin or DFW or maybe even Abilene and might want to ride to Brownwood with someone else who’s flying into the same airport, please post a comment here and be sure to include your email address.  You may not want to post details but just which airport you are flying into and anyone looking for a ride or wanting to ride with you can contact you directly and y’all work out the details.

If you’re a coffee or tea drinker and you’re driving, you may want to bring a gallon or two of bottled water or water from home.  I will have bottled water for us to drink but will not have enough for you to make coffee and/or tea.  The water here is safe to drink but if you’re not used to it, you may not like it!  I’m not a coffee or a tea drinker so I’m not even sure if it makes a difference in how your coffee or tea would taste.

If you have a portable design wall, whether it’s something purchased or simply a piece of flannel, bring it and I’ll have plenty of painter’s tape so we can hang them on the walls.  A lot of that room is glass but there will be room to put up a few design walls.  I have a few of the flannel backed plastic table cloths that work great so I’ll bring those (assuming I find them before the retreat).

Don’t worry a whole lot about remembering every little thing.  Small things can be shared.  Don’t forget things like  your foot pedal, your electric cord to the sewing machine . . most of us won’t share that kind of stuff! : )

Anyone who already knows how to knit but is struggling with making socks, I’ll have a few pairs in progress so I can show you how I turn the heel, shape the toe, etc.  I do my socks mostly top down, one sock at a time on DPNs.  Yes, I know how to do toe up, two at a time and magic loop but I prefer the DPNs making one sock at a time.  If you’re needing help with other methods, someone else might be able to help you.

Not long now . . see you all soon!

Socks – #2 for 2012

Last night I finished my green BFF socks.  This is one of Cookie A’s patterns.  Sock knitters are familiar with Cookie A just like quilters know Alex Anderson or Eleanor Burns!

I love everything about these socks.  I love the color!  I love the yarn (Madelinetosh Sock).  I love the cables.  I love that with the cables, the whole leg acts like it’s done in ribbing is seems thick and stays up nicely.  I know that, according to Denise’s rules, I’m supposed to try new patterns this year.  This was a new pattern for me but I’m betting I make at least one more pair of these.

Last night as I was trying to come up with another pattern to use for the next socks, everything seemed to fall a bit short after making these BFF Socks.  These could be the socks I make over and over and over again!

If I get any amount of knitting time this evening, I should be able to finish a pair of socks that I’ve had started for quite some time.  We’ll see!

Design Wall Monday – January 30, 2012

My design wall had the Rolling Along blocks on it this week.  Right now, it’s empty . . waiting for new blocks to be made.
