February QOV

A few days into February and if you’re wanting a design to make for your February QOV, here’s one!   I still don’t have a name and no . . it is not going to be called Red Necks, White Socks and Blue Ribbon Beer!  :)    Other suggestions would be appreciated.

I’m working now on getting the blocks made to test the instructions and depending on how much sewing time I get in the next few days, I hope to start posting instructions next week.

As shown, it comes out to being about 62″ x 79″.  According to EQ, you will need the following amounts of fabric.  This does not include fabric for the binding.

Background – 2-1/4 yards
Red – 1-1/8 7ards
Gold – 1-1/4 yards
Light Blue -7/8 yards
Dark Blue – 2 yards

If you’re not making this for a QOV and want to make a larger version, what about this one?

This quilt has 7 borders, which is the number of borders I most often use to achieve the look I like.  It finishes at 78″ x 90″.  It could easily be made larger by adding more blocks.  I’ve given you a picture to go by . . if you want to make the quilt look like this, all the info you need to figure it out can be found in my newest book, 60 Pieced Quilt Borders.

Socks #3, 2012

These were a pair that had been started probably back in the summer.

Even though I’m seriously doing Denise’s challenge to make a new pattern each month, I am going to keep a plain Jane pair of socks on the needles.  These are the ones I grab when we’re making a road trip or sitting in a waiting room or anything where I can knit but don’t want to haul a pattern, a row counter and have to do serious thinking while knitting.  For these orange socks, I had one sock finished before we left MO and it’s taken me forever to get the second one done.  The yarn is Lorna’s Laces and that’s one of my favorite sock yarns but it seems like it takes me forever to knit a pair of socks with it.

That’s my third pair to get finished in 2012.  Two pairs were just finishing the second sock and one pair was a start to finish pair.  Next, I’m making a pair of socks for a very special lady and I think I know what yarn I’m  using . . but I’m not sure which pattern I’m going to use.  No time to waste . . I’ll get it all figured out and started tonight.

The Bad Things End Too!

Just like all good things must come to an end, some bad things eventually end too!  Yesterday after dropping Chad and Nicole off at the airport in Abilene, we stopped by the rental and cleaned it up.  Before we got there, I asked Vince how long we’d have to spend and he said he hoped about an hour.  Make that . . 3 hours!

I was such a good trooper!  I dusted and mopped the upstairs family room/dining room and kitchen and wiped down the windowsills, windows, blinds, mantle and ceiling fans.

Then I scrubbed the stove top, wiped down the microwave, then polished the granite counter tops and wiped the cabinets down with Murphy’s Oil Soap.  I also vacuumed the three upstairs bedrooms but didn’t take pictures of those rooms.

Vince cleaned three bathrooms (one of them was broken and we never ever used it so we didn’t clean it!).  He dust mopped all the tile floors downstairs.

This was the room where I sewed and I would miss this room if I didn’t have such a great sewing room here.  He also cleaned all the window sills downstairs and swept out the furnace room.

When we left, I said to Vince “See!  I’m a much better cleaner than packer.  I worked without whining and complaining.”  He said “Yep, I didn’t fire you, did I?”

We’re officially done there and as we drove away, I remembered how happy we were to have found that rental . . til we realized the air conditioner didn’t cool the house, there were some extremely noisy neighbors, and then we experienced two flooding incidents — one from rain water draining through the basement and one from a water pipe in between level 1 and level 2 breaking.  Living there wasn’t comfortable with the cooling situation and every time it rained, we wondered if things in the basement would get wet.

We ended up with a great home so in the end, we’re happy but those months in the rental were not easy ones and we’re very happy to close that chapter!
