Just like all good things must come to an end, some bad things eventually end too! Yesterday after dropping Chad and Nicole off at the airport in Abilene, we stopped by the rental and cleaned it up. Before we got there, I asked Vince how long we’d have to spend and he said he hoped about an hour. Make that . . 3 hours!
I was such a good trooper! I dusted and mopped the upstairs family room/dining room and kitchen and wiped down the windowsills, windows, blinds, mantle and ceiling fans.
Then I scrubbed the stove top, wiped down the microwave, then polished the granite counter tops and wiped the cabinets down with Murphy’s Oil Soap. I also vacuumed the three upstairs bedrooms but didn’t take pictures of those rooms.
Vince cleaned three bathrooms (one of them was broken and we never ever used it so we didn’t clean it!). He dust mopped all the tile floors downstairs.
This was the room where I sewed and I would miss this room if I didn’t have such a great sewing room here. He also cleaned all the window sills downstairs and swept out the furnace room.
When we left, I said to Vince “See! I’m a much better cleaner than packer. I worked without whining and complaining.” He said “Yep, I didn’t fire you, did I?”
We’re officially done there and as we drove away, I remembered how happy we were to have found that rental . . til we realized the air conditioner didn’t cool the house, there were some extremely noisy neighbors, and then we experienced two flooding incidents — one from rain water draining through the basement and one from a water pipe in between level 1 and level 2 breaking. Living there wasn’t comfortable with the cooling situation and every time it rained, we wondered if things in the basement would get wet.
We ended up with a great home so in the end, we’re happy but those months in the rental were not easy ones and we’re very happy to close that chapter!

Didn’t you have some creepy critters inside and out? Well, I’m glad you got the house, the acreage and the sewing room of your dreams.
I totally forgot about that! I think we got rid of the critters. Even when the house had been sitting empty, we didn’t see any of them while cleaning.
Yay!! It’s finished and that chapter’s closed! Good job for being such a trooper and keeping your job intact. LOL!!
I’m so happy for you Judy. Now you can look at your new home and property with great joy and happiness after going thru all the waiting, running, crying, working, and grief. So, so happy for you.
I would think cleaning the rental is a job you would want to be fired from.
I’m hoping you won’t have to go back to that house for anything.
Yellow Jacket Ranch is where you belong.
I don’t like being fired but when it comes to packing . . I didn’t mind it. I figure if Vince ever gets the crazy idea to move, maybe he’ll remember what a horrible packer/mover I am and he will change his mind.
Vince went back to the rental today in the pickup to get the trash can, the vacuum cleaner, wet mop, etc. but no, I don’t ever intend to go there again.
Good for you Judy. It is so nice to see those challenging situations in the rear view mirror isn’t it? So happy for you and Vince and Speck!
My goodness! I’m worn out just reading all you had to do!!! I’d say you’re entitled to some well-deserved time in the play room now!!!! So glad you are now finally done with that chapter in your life and ready to start a new one at Yellow Jacket Ranch!
You were such a good renter. Most renters destroy things but I think you left the place in great shape. Good for you!!
The last chapter makes this chapter all the sweeter. Happy for you and Vince.
Too bad there were so many challenges. It’s a beautiful home.
That was very generous of you to leave your rental in better shape than you found it. You put so much effort into cleaning, and really shows what wonderful folks you are.
I always try to do to others what I would want done to/for me. Doesn’t always work out that way but I can’t see why anyone should have to clean up after us. We were lucky to have found that house, even with all its issues, it was way better than living in a hotel for four months and I’ll always be thankful to the owner for renting it to us.
What a relief, no? Did you get a picture of the lake before you left? Is it filling up? That does look like a nice sewing room, but I think I like your new one better. I need to dash to Costco and then I’m spending the rest of the day sewing and quilting!
That rental house LOOKS so nice, it’s a shame it had/has so many issues. Years from now you might look back on that place and laugh about the trials of living there….especially since you ended up with a place SO much better. Things really do work out for the best sometimes.
