Sprouting Seeds Arrived

Yesterday I called a local health food store and they do keep alfalfa and broccoli seeds.  I can get lentils and mung beans in the grocery store. If I love clover, radish and buckwheat, I’ll have to order those.

The sampler package contained 10 packs but I pulled out the mung, lentil and mixes and these are the ones I’m really excited to try:

Shown are radish, clover, alfalfa, buckwheat and broccoli . . all new to me.

One of my favorite sandwiches is made with  ham, avocado and sprouts.

Retreat Time

It’s almost time for the retreat at Lake Brownwood.  Here are a few notes:

  • I’ll be bringing a good sized bottle of machine oil so if you don’t want to travel with oil, you’re welcome to use what I have.
  • If you’re coming in a day early, and would like to meet in town for dinner, I have a plan.  Please contact me.  If there’s a good number of us, I’ll call ahead and see if I can get them to hold one big table for us.
  • Monday I will meet with the hotel folks to get the room set up and arranged the way we want it.
  • I will have bottled water, soda, paper plates, cups, napkins and sandwich making stuff so that we can eat in and sew instead of going out for dinner.  I will not have enough food for us to eat lunch and dinner without leaving though.
  • If you’d like, please bring a snack – cookies or dip — homemade or not.
  • I will have a couple of rotary cutters and mats and rulers and I’m sure others will bring these and share so if you’re flying and don’t want to have to bring all that, don’t worry about it.  We’ll take care of you.
  • As far as irons, I’m planning on using the irons and ironing boards from the rooms.  I don’t want to bring bottled water for my good iron.
  • The chairs there are just plain folding chairs so if you need a pad, please bring that.

I did talk to the hotel folks and the sewing room will be open by noon on Thursday and I should be there by then.  I may have to run here or there so if I’m not there when you arrive, just set up and get busy.

If you need to contact me, the phone number in my sewing room is 337-214-8214.   That’s the only number where I can be reached during the day.  My cell phone doesn’t work out in the sewing room.

Safe travels to all of you and I can’t wait to see you all!!

Pick A Pinwheel – Part 1

If you’re not a fan of flying geese, you’ll probably not like this step!  But they work so well once you figure out a way to make them easily and accurately.  Don’t give up . . so many designs use them.

For this step, you’ll need 80 flying geese that measure 2″ x 4″ finished or 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ unfinished.

Use your background fabric and your medium and dark blues.  Be sure to get the blues in the correct position (as shown) for all of them!

It’s Political Season

Last night, I signed onto Facebook and read a few posts and came across one that was political in nature, a quote from a comedian and it hit me as very derogatory and belittling for those to whom it was directed.  Maybe I should have a thicker skin but I consider my facebook friends to be “friends” and I can’t imagine that as a Facebook user, knowing I have friends of all political varieties, that I would ever consider it ok to post something like that – joke or not.

Can we all remember that we’re Americans (and I know that some who read my blog are not Americans but please understand this post is directed to Americans); this political season is going to be long and nasty and there’s not one thing to be gained by offending others.

You’re not going to change how I think and I don’t want to try to change how you think.  Who really knows what’s right and wrong?  What I would swear is right today sometimes seems wrong tomorrow.  And, if you’re forming your opinions based on what you hear on TV, no matter which channel you’re watching, and especially if you’re getting your “news” from a comedian, please dig a little deeper and put some effort unto finding out the truth.  I can’t tell you how many times I hear something on the news and then later I hear the direct quote or the full speech and what I originally heard wasn’t even the whole story.  There’s so much spin and bias, please don’t be victim to falling for it.   There’s hardly a speech or a paper or even a blog post ever where  you couldn’t take one sentence and turn it around to mean something completely different from how it was intended.  Let’s all be smarter, more informed folks!

There’s a place for politics and for me, it will never be Facebook or my blog.  Please think before you write or post something.  I realize that to some, it just doesn’t matter.  For me, it does.  Words said and feelings expressed can’t be taken back and erased.  Earlier this week I questioned whether I even wanted to stay on Facebook, then last night I wondered if I need to stay off until after the election and then I said no . . real friends understand that we’re all different and they don’t say or post hurtful or derogatory statements about the beliefs of others.

Let’s all try to be real and good friends for the next 10 months, let’s get through the political season and still be friends!
