Buried Treasures

While unpacking boxes, we find some funny things.  I have the framed certificate when Chad graduated from kindergarten and then from elementary school.  Yesterday Vince was going through boxes and came in with this framed picture.

A whole lot has changed in the years since this picture was taken. It was probably 16 or 17 years ago!  It makes me smile to think back at how far we’ve come and it encourages me to go on a diet!  :)

Vince was my sweetheart those many years ago and he still is today, Valentine’s Day, 2012.  I cannot imagine what my life would have been like had we not met in the weird way in which we met.  Even in the difficult circumstances, we find a way to have fun and make the best of whatever comes our way and I think that’s part of what makes our marriage strong and keeps us best friends.  Life isn’t always a bowl of cherries but we never go to bed angry with each other and each and every morning brings a new day . . and life is good at our house!

Sewing Habits

How do you sew?  Do you make one block, then another block, or do you make all the components and then put all the sections for all the blocks together  .. kind of like an assembly line?  I was surprised recently during another discussion when many said they didn’t like making all the parts (like all the half square triangles and then all the flying geese) and then putting together sections of the blocks.

A few nights ago I stayed in the sewing room til late and finished making all the components for the Pick a Pinwheel quilt.  When I got ready to leave the sewing room, I had to smile at the mess I was leaving behind.

There are a whole lot of block parts down there!

Pick a Pinwheel – Part 3

Today’s instructions are for the partial quarter square triangle.  The cutting instructions given below give you a piece that’s real close to the perfect size.  I prefer to cut my pieces just a tad larger so I can square up the piece.  Do it however you like.  This is the piece you will be making.

For the red and blue triangles, cut 20 squares that are 3-1/4″.  Cut these on the diagonal twice to yield 80 triangles.

For the gold triangles, cut 40 squares that are 2-7/8″.  Cut these on the diagonal once to yield 80 triangles.

Make 80.  They should measure 2-1/2″ unfinished.  Square up if needed.
