Progress Report #5

Between company, finger surgery, and the retreat, I’ve seriously doubted I’d get this top done in February but now I think I might.  All it needs now is borders and the pieced part of the border is done.  This afternoon I got the blocks finished and tonight got them all sewn into rows and the rows sewn together.  Yay!!

I’ll have to go outside and take pictures of this one when it’s done so you can see how pretty the colors really are.

Buttermilk Pie

All these years and my buttermilk pie recipe never made it to the blog.  This is such a good pie and tastes nothing like buttermilk.

Buttermilk Pie

Ingredients:
1-3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. butter, melted
3 eggs
2 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
1 – 9″ pie shell, unbaked

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in the order given. Mix well and pour into pie shell. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until brown. Filling is set when a light crust forms on top.

Deep in the Heart of Texas

I’ve been asked to make a quilt for an auction and I figured something “Texas” might be a good way to go.  People in Texas really go all out for Texas stuff.  For the most part, quilts just don’t raise a lot of money at auctions so I’m hoping if it has a “Texas” theme, maybe someone will at least bid on it!

Here’s a picture of the fabric I bought last week and I’m thinking of using the black border print and the panel, which are the “Deep in the Heart of Texas” line from Moda.  Have I mentioned lately how much I love Texas?

You can see more of the line here.  For the border print, there are four different borders, not counting that one on the bottom with the red, white and blue Texas shape.  In all these EQ drawings, I plan to cut apart the squares and use those in the body of the quilt (where plain off white sections are shown in the drawing) and then use the border print in place the black border in the drawings.  Maybe for corner stones, I’ll add fabric to make those Texas shapes in the bottom of the border print work.

It’s hard to visualize without the fabric scanned into the drawing but so far, these are the designs I’ve come up with.

Please try to visualize these designs with the Texas squares instead of the plain ecru squares, and with the border print instead of the solid black wide border.  Any one of these designs stand out as something you’d bid on at an auction?

The Two Forks

We were driving down the road when I read your comments on my cell phone.  I was laughing so hard I had tears running down my face!  When I took the picture of Vince eating his popcorn . .

I  knew what he was doing so I didn’t think anything about it but when I looked at the picture, I see how hilarious it is.  Here’s the story:  When we use the good balsamic and olive oil on our salad, he always sops up the leftover dressing with a piece of bread.  On the diet, he can’t spare the points for a piece of bread so he had been “tossing” his popcorn to absorb the leftover dressing!  Makes sense now,  huh?
