Progress Report #7

All day I was tempted to put the February Color Palette Challenge aside . . it just needed borders and I was so ready to get to the “Deep in the Heart of Texas” quilt.  I stuck with the Color Challenge quilt and got the top finished!  These are colors I would never have put together but I love this top.

For those who asked if this one will be on the free patterns page . . I don’t know  yet.

Once that top was finished, I was so ready to get started on the Texas quilt.  The panel squares are not really square but are 4.75″ x 5″ or something like that so I had to do a bit of modifications to get the blocks to come out to 10″.  I made one to make sure it worked.

How many blocks do you think I can get done tomorrow?  10?  15?  I’m so anxious to get this top done.

Smoked Salmon

Vince makes the very best smoked salmon!  I love it better than any smoked salmon we get anywhere.  Last week we were out of town and in a store that had salmon and it was a bit thicker and would work good for smoking so we brought some home and he smoked it over the weekend.  Here’s half of what he smoked!

Since I was the one fixing the plates, I felt it was my duty to taste the salmon before serving it.  You can see there’s a little bite chunk missing off that right end.  There’s so much we can do with a big container of smoked salmon.  For lunch today, we had a nice salad with chunks of cold salmon.  Yum!

I never watch him prepare this because I don’t want to know how he does it. I like it just the way he does it!  I know that he sprinkles it with coarse salt, leaves that on for a while, then rinses the salt off, lets it dry on paper towels for a while, coats it with brown sugar and lets it sit in the fridge overnight uncovered, then smokes it.  It has a hint of sweetness with a hint of saltiness . . it’s really good!

I think I’m going to keep Vince . . he’s pretty useful.  He cooks, he cleans, he tills my garden, he’s building a chicken coop and . . ok . . we’d better stop there!  :)

Design Wall – February 27, 2012

Have I thanked you all lately for sharing your design wall posts?  I look so forward to relaxing on Monday evening and looking at all the gorgeous projects.  Such inspiration so . . thank you participants!

This isn’t my design wall because it happens to be empty right now.  The quilt I was working on has half the borders on it – 3 done and 3 to go.
