Let’s see . . the front right section of an old Chevy S-10 pickup, some boxes that may or may not be empty . . I don’t know, looks like the deck to the lawnmower and a pile of wood with some bags of cement. But do you know what it really is? The cement and the pile of wood are the beginnings of the chicken coop! There’s only so much wood that can be hauled in the back of an S-10 pickup. This represents two trips to Home Depot.
Can you tell there’s just a bit of “discussion” around here about us needing a bigger pickup. I think we need a Ford 250 but Vince thinks the old 1996 model S-10 is just fine.
I guess since I never drive it, I should just mind my own business, right? I’m getting a chicken coop and chickens so I’m happy . . doesn’t matter to me what he drives but I do like to give him a hard time about it.

YEA, you get your “girls” again. My Dh drives a “beater’ car. He would love a S-10. We had one once. Also Teenage boy drivers- you know what happened there.

yay! I wish you lived close enough to me that I could beg some eggs from you! I know how much you enjoyed your last flock.. Do you plan on getting the same breeds, or are there others better suited to the new region? Can wait to watch them grow up all over again!

The baby chicks should have arrived in town yesterday but we haven’t been to see them yet. If they have Red Stars, which is what we had last time, we’ll get those. They did good in the hot summers and were such great layers and . . well, they loved me a lot! 🙂

Yay! Judy gets her chickens!!

Just don’t let him buy a new one without selling the old one or you’ll have two trucks forever! Ask me how I know that. 🙂 blessings, marlene

I know my husband has a Ranger and a Ford 350 and I have nowhere to park my little car 🙁

Judy, glad to hear that the chickens have arrived and are getting closer to Yellow Jacket Ranch. How many do you start off with? Hope there is a Ruby among them.

I’ll bet you are so looking forward to having real hen-fruit again!!! Chickens are so sweet. Will you get any roosters? I enjoy having a rooster to look out after the girls but it is hard to keep a rooster from getting mean – unless it’s a Banty. Don’t much enjoy going to the chicken house carrying a big stick – LOL!!!

With gas prices what they are maybe the S-10 is the better option. Those F-250s like their fuel. Glad to see the chicken coop is in the beginning stages…will this one be lavender too? That was such a pretty chicken coop.

Lucky you. I am hoping I can get a new flock this spring, but hubby isn’t too keen on the idea. Nothing wrong with the coop, just need some chicks. Guess if I just accidentally stop at the feed store and the chicks fall into the truck, he won’t be able to say much. . . .

Oooo. At first I thought it was the makings of an outdoor bread/pizza oven! 😉 My brother was a Ford man for years, but went with the Dodge Ram last time around. I really love his truck, and it helps him haul load after load of firewood each year (he gets a permit and goes up to logging sites and cuts firewood from the slash piles). You’ve got a ranch now — you need a bigger truck!
Karla says
I am glad you get your chickens. Since we live in town now all I have are my dogs, they aren’t quite like chickens but they do like to hop up on things and they keep hunt for bits of goodies to eat too.

is there an agricultural formula for how many chickens = how many cattle (or goats)?
Rebecca says
Hooray! You’re moving right along. I never knew anyone to get as much pleasure from chickens as you, so I’m happy to see the beginnings of the coop.
