It probably only makes a difference if the quilt is going on a bed – then I’d put it with the border facing in so it is right side up when on a bed. If this is not a bed quilt, I’d probably put this one facing out so that it would be right side up on the top of the quilt.
Ok, so I think of facing in to be right side up when looking in to the quilt, which is backwards from how you’ve labeled the two options. So for the way the pictures are labeled, I go for borders facing out….
I don’t think there is a right or wrong way, but I always put mine facing out because of the way it looks when it hangs on the bed. Love that quilt!

I prefer the first option, the guys at the top of the quilt are upside down on the second option. I know they will be upside down on the bottom of the first option, but to me that is better than at the top of the quilt.
Uggh, I have no idea if I explained what I mean well enough for someone else to understand.

My gut is that I like them better facing in, but after reading the comments above, I agree with facing them out if it will go on a bed. Good luck!
What, no prize for saying in, then, like above, changing my mind to out because of position on the bed. Either way, love the quilt.

You have all the blocks that might be considered directional one way, for instance the state of TX does not turn both up and down. Therefore, I think the top border should be as you have it in the first pic; the sides and bottom like the second pic with the horses and men being upright! It may not be used on a bed but there is a top to this quilt just because no one would truly want to turn the state of TX upside down……now, would they!??!

My husband and six year old grandson like number one, if you want a male point of view. Since the quilt appears to be directional I would make the top and bottom right side up , then I am not sure what I would do with the sides. I like the green next to the inside instead of the outside.

If it’s going to hang over the edge of a bed, you’d want the side borders as in the second photo. You don’t want to be looking at upside down cows! Since it’s a directional quilt, I think I’d do the bottom the same way as the sides, and the top like it is in the first picture. JMHO
I like the first option with the horses riding around the border. On a bed the people sleeping under it, have their eyes closed so that doesn’t matter. LOL

Judy, I’ve been trying to find your earlier posts about the sizes of the blocks and can’t find them. Where should I look? I just bought enough for 28 blocks and the stripe for the border. Not sure how much I would need, so bought 3 yds. of stripe. I really, really like this arrangement and want to make one.
I think it depends on how the quilt is to be used. If it is a cuddle up quilt, wall hanging or a put on the floor quilt to play on I like the border to sit so it faces the interior. If it is going to be on a bed with the border over the side I like the border bottom to be the outside of the quilt.

From following your previous posts, I don’t think that this is a bed quilt. If it is not a bed quilt, I would want all the the animals facing in (like the top picture). The top picture makes you think that the animals are connected to the center where the 2nd picture makes my eye travel away from the center of the quilt. If it were a bed quilt, I would place the top border with the animals facing in and the remaining borders (sides and bottom) with the animals facing out.

I prefer the border facing out. Facing in fells awkward to to me. I think it is because I like the bit of space (black fabric) between the center and the border. I would keep all the borders facing out because on my beds, I would have complementary pillowcases which would cover up the top of the quilt when the bed is made up, but if not for use on a bed, I agree with the group that votes for keeping the cows on their feet.
I like it border in – like the first picture, it gives it more of a frame,. and if I were going to put it on a wall – it would look complete… my opinion only…. 😉

For a bed quilt, you might want to place it facing out so the horses are standing on the grass not on their heads as you view the quilt hanging on the side of the bed. Same for top and bottom. Keep them standing and not upside down.
