Just a few rows done this evening . . not even enough to justify a photograph!
I got a late start for Day 2. With it getting daylight after 7 a.m., that puts me so late getting things done. I don’t want to shower or work in the kitchen til after I deal with the chickens.
The pattern I posted yesterday did not include the size for the flying geese, I have added that info. I had to change the link so the new link is in yesterday’s post. But, they are 2′ x 4″ finished or 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ unfinished. Thank you folks for pointing that out.
Like yesterday, I will update this post with my accomplishments for the day. Instead of trying to get all the flying geese done, like I had hoped to do, I’m going to make 40 more today and then sew together a few blocks. That breaks up the monotony of sewing the flying geese a bit, though I love to make all the components before sewing blocks. Yesterday I was about to give up before I saw how pretty the block is and how quickly it goes together.
8:50 a.m. – The sewing begins for me!
Noon – 48 Flying Geese are made. Lunch break!
4:30 p.m. – Long lunch break, huh? I put up 13 quarts of spiced apple rings. Now I hope to sew for an hour or so before time to finish up dinner.
8:00 p.m. – Day 2 has ended for me.
I had hoped to get one yellow block done but I didn’t get that far. I got all 6 of the red/yellow nine patches done and I got 56 more flying geese done. I’ll be back at the sewing room as soon as I can in the morning.
As parents, we’re always proud of our kids when they’ve worked hard and get good results. Today was Chad’s last day at Wal-Mart in Nevada, MO. He starts his new job Monday. Last night was his last day at the his bank job . . the second job he held. Weekdays he worked 7 – 4 at Wal-Mart and then 5 – 9 at the bank except on Fridays and he was off on weekends. I know he’s so tired from having worked both jobs and then the baby being up at night.
He starts his new job Monday. They probably won’t be moving til November 1 or even November 15 so he’ll be in a hotel during the week and hopefully will come home on weekends.
They had a going away party for him at Wal-Mart this morning with a decorated cake and all. I know that made him feel good. I wish I could have been there! We moved to Nevada on January 1, 2007 and Chad worked at a grocery store for a few months so I’m guessing he was at Wal-Mart there for close to five years. While Chad was in Pittsburg, KS going to college, he lived in the dorm and came home on Friday evening and worked at Wal-Mart from 5 – 9 or 10 and then worked on Saturday and on Sunday, he worked 7 – 4 and then headed back to school. Never once did he get to go to a football game at school because he worked every single weekend. It wasn’t easy but most things in life aren’t these days.
They may have found a house to rent. It’s one that’s been for sale for a while and hasn’t sold and they think the owners have agreed to rent it to them. Chad will see it Monday. They’ve debated about buying because real estate prices and interest rates are so low, there are all kinds of perks still available for first time home buyers but they know they’ll move often the first few years and I think they’re going to rent so that when a chance for promotion comes up, they’re free to go wherever they get the best offer.
I’m proud of them and I’m so happy to see him getting into a permanent job and he will have his own insurance and can get off ours! :) Seriously, I’m so happy for them and can’t wait to see them . . soon!
