This entire blog post and the events described therein are all the fault of my friend, Doris!  Remember . . it’s very important that we all blame Doris!

Saturday morning we went out and went shopping . . picked up everything that was on sale that we needed.

Sunday morning, I got this email from Doris.  The subject was “Deal of the Day” and the content was this:  “Did you see where Dollar General had Libby’s canned vegetables for 2/$1?”  That’s my price point — .50/can for canned veggies.  It’s rare to find them for that price these days.

Vince was sitting near me and I said “WOW!  Dollar General has Libby’s canned veggies for .50/can.”  He said “Let’s go!”  I said no, we don’t really need anything.  We’re pretty stocked on veggies.  He asked what I thought the “use by” date would be on them and I told him probably some time in 2014.  He asked if we have enough to last til then?  Will they ever be less than .50? OK . . I give in.

This was taken after our first stop at Dollar General.  They had sugar on sale for $2.25 for 4 pounds, which is $.5625/pound.  Wal-Mart has 10 pound bags for $5.58, which is .558/pound but I don’t like dealing with 10 pound bags.  Five pounds of sugar fits in my canister and I don’t like leaving that half bag in the pantry so I don’t mind paying that fraction of a cent extra for the 4 pound bags.  I knew that I had two buckets, each with 50 pounds of sugar in the pantry, as well as 10 – 4 pound bags but Vince insisted on buying more sugar . . 42  more 4 pound bags.  We shall not run out of sugar.

I don’t know how many cans of green beans and corn we bought.  We shopped at one Dollar General and then because we needed to go to Tractor Supply, and there’s a Dollar General next to them, we bought more green beans and corn.  And, Stove Top dressing was on sale for $1/box. Believe it or not, I really like the stuff occasionally so we bought a little of that.

We decided while we were in the neighborhood, we’d stop by Kroger and get more Dr. Pepper that’s on sale.

While at Tractor Supply, we got two bags of chicken feed.  The poor, little Honda was packed to the gills.  And, it’s all Doris’ fault! 

We stacked all the bags of sugar on the shelf but all the canned goods need to be put away so that’s one thing I must get done before this day ends.

We shall not run short of green beans and corn for at least the next 18 months!

Seriously, I’m thankful Doris told me about this sale.  I’m not real good about checking prices at Dollar General and that was the first time I had been in the store here.
