The Mitten Yarn

Yesterday when I checked my account at The Loopy Ewe, and checked the tracking on my package of mitten yarn, I knew that it would be delivered by early afternoon.  I happened to be down near the mail box when the mail lady arrived and as she handed me the package, she said “Not more yarn??”  I now feel like I’m answering to her and to Vince for my yarn purchases.  She was just joking and most of the time, he is not joking about my yarn purchases.  Besides, if I can get these mittens made quickly, one pair will go to the mail lady!

That Super Bulky yarn is . . well, it’s super bulky!  And I hope that means it will be super quick to knit up.

Malabrigo Rasta Super Bulky Yarn

Here it is compared to the sock yarn I usually use.

Bulky weight yarn compared to fingering weight yarn

But, look at the difference in the needles I’ll use for the bulky weight vs. the sock yarn needles.

2.25 mm needles for the socks and 8 mm needles for the mittens.

This will be my first time to knit mittens.  Wish me luck!  🙂

With all the sock-knitting experience you have, making mittens will be a cinch, Judy, but Good Luck anyway!

Mittens are easy to do just make sure you make the thumbs long enough. Short ones are a pita!!!!
    BTW really pretty yarn!!

I mentioned to you before that I plan to learn to knit socks SOON. Well I ordered sock yarn and sock needles and must say I was stunned at the size difference when they arrived. Made my usual #8 needles and worsted look gi-normous. Plan to get after it following the holidays.Happy knitting.

I hope you have fun with the mittens! I have a skein set aside to make myself a pair, too. The first pair were a gift for my mum-in-law.

Judy! You don’t need luck…you are so competent. I can knit a smidge,, I might even be able to knit mittens, but NEVER socks! I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of your mittens when you get them done.

It’s fun to have a personable mail delivery person. I love our guy!

    Merry Christmas!

Ohh!! You are going to have so much fun making mittens! I’ve knit many pair of mittens, but only one pair of socks. Just don’t do what I did a few pair ago: the first mitten was a medium and somehow i knit the next one according to the large pattern. =(
