Yes, there’s a deer blind or two out in the woods. No, Vince has not hunted out of them yet. No, he had not hunted at all. There’s only about two weeks left in hunting season. Earlier this week, we had a discussion about the deer hunting.
Me: Vince, are you going to get a deer this year?
Vince: I don’t know.
Me: Are you going to go hunting before the season is over?
Vince: I took the carpet out of the blinds and need to get some new carpet cut for them.
Me: Are you going to go hunting before the season is over?
Vince: I don’t know!
Yesterday he decided to go hunting. I wasn’t real sure what he was planning but I told him that I was going to the sewing room and I’d stay there til dark or til I heard a shot. I had just started talking to my friend on the phone and I heard a shot so I went out and sure enough, he had a deer. But, wait til you see where he was hunting.
He was on the front porch! In a comfy chair! With a bag of deer corn on top of a table for resting the rifle. One of his “extra” table purchases was turned over in front of him so the deer wouldn’t see him. Don’t laugh .. it worked and he wasn’t sitting there more than 10 minutes.
Just when I think living here can’t get any better .. there are places, but not many, where you can get deer and turkeys without ever getting off the front porch!

LOL now that’s funny! And so “Vince”! Life just doesn’t get any better than that!
High Five to Vince! Fresh backstrap for breakfast!!
Congrats to Vince. I have hunted from inside my studio before. just opened the back door, sit on a chair, and have a small heater going next to me. LOL my property backs up to the woods and is a spot where the deer come out of the woods and graze in my back yard. lazy man hunting. LOL
Will NOT let hubby read this!!!!! He’d try it even with the neighbors close by. We could definitly get turkeys from the porch, they sometimes come right down the driveway.
Hugs!!!
Awesome!
Hahahahaha! And here I was, expecting you to say he was on the BACK porch! Can’t get any better than that! Enjoy the venison!!
Too funny! Vince is definitely a man who knows how to get things done — the easiest way possible.
Tell Vince congart from the Paventy’s!
My husband got an elk one year on our next door neighbors land. He walked up to the kids bus shed and waited for the sun to come up. Ocne it was up he walked out of the shed and shot an elk. He walked back to the house got the tractor loaded it up and drove into the butcher! I would think Stve and Vince could be good hunting buddies!
You two are “too funny”! Heaven DEFINITELY brought you together!!! May blessings, and with ease, continue. As with several others, I am not telling husband nor son about this post!
Can’t beat that. Hubby is cutting up his deer on the kitchen table as I type this. He said he’d be done by the end of the weekend….I suggested he be done by the end of the day, as I have things to get done before Christmas. Wonder how a couple of nice backstraps would go over for Christmas dinner instead of turkey? Probably not well, the grandkids had a fit last year when I made pork loin and scalloped potatoes. There’s just nobody as set in their ways as teens & pre-teens.
Way to go, Vince!!! My kind of “hunting”!
OMG, I almost fell off my chair laughing when I read that as did my deer hunter husband. That is hilarious! Thanks for sharing!
From the front porch, too funny. No getting up in the dark to sit in a blind in the cold for Vince! Hunting in IL is much different.
That is SO awesome, wish we could do that!!! I can’t wait to see what you cook up with the deer! I was thinking next time we get one that I want to try ‘deer wellington’!
Please come to my house……..hundreds of deer daily destroy my garden and plants. Turkey all up and down the street and we live close to a large city. Come on out to Huntsville, al, Vince.
Now thats the way to hunt!
Oh, that is just so cool! Kind of balances out the displeasures of snakes and grasshoppers! Happy eating!
Glad to read that Vince got a deer but am I the only one that thinks feeding them and making them almost tame and then shooting them is not okay????????? Not much sport about that. I do know you will use and put to meat to good use. I like reading your blog. Merry Christmas to you and Vince.

Too funny!!! Gophers have moved into my rock walls and gardens and my hubby has been known to do population control out of the dining room window! Men!!!!
Good for Vince, Looks like our freezer will be sans venison this year. Galen did get a great camera shot of one while in Brady last week and then our friend missed it! Had thought we would be going up for a few days after Christmas for one last hunt, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. Always next year.
Hahaha!! I love it! Beats the heck out of climbing into a precarious blind!!
Ahhh, I remember it well at Grandad’s place outside Santa Anna! Easy Peasy!
I think I’ve lived in the city too long. My first thought was “Is that legal?” lol. Growing up on a ranch, my parents would get venizon and make jerky – oh my but that stuff was good!
This made me laugh as DS#2 always gets his deer while sitting on his back porch. Lives a half mile from the river and the deer graze in the field right behind his house. Sure beats having to go stalk one. This way he can pick and choose his deer. Then comes making deer jerky and lots of other goodies.
I think we need a photo of the deer!! Was it a doe or a buck? I think Vince was trying send a message to the deer to stay away from the house, garden and fruit trees! =)
Too late, I laughed out loud reading this story! Funny! But hey, it works!
Hey, is that hunting or harvesting? Harvesting is what we do here, so much easier. We feed them corn all year so they are tender and tasty!
OMG AWESOME!
That is hysterical!
Thanks for sharing.

I’m not a hunter, but I Love this story!
