What’s Cooking?

The “What’s Cooking?” posts really doesn’t start til next week but why not get in a little practice week here? For those who didn’t read the post where the “What’s Cooking?” Challenge was outlined, here’s how it works:  Each Wednesday, there will be a new “ingredient” or two (or three) posted and if you want to participate, you need to make a dish using those ingredients and at some point in the week, post pictures of your dish, along with your recipe or a link if it’s a recipe from the internet.  If it’s a published recipe and you don’t feel comfortable copying someone else’s recipe, simply tell us where you found the recipe and maybe a little about the recipe.  Let’s all be aware of and respect copyright . . though I understand that recipes are somewhat different.

On the following Wednesday, when the “focus ingredients” are posted for the following week, there will be a link box where you can link up with your blog post.  Next Wednesday I will post the “What’s Cooking?” ingredients, along with a link box where you will link to your post showing what you mad with this week’s ingredients.  Make sense?

Say an ingredient is:

Sweet Potatoes

And that’s what we’ll use for our practice week but there will be a new ingredient each week.  Get creative  . . don’t tell us you fixed baked sweet potatoes!  :)

Grandbaby’s Christmas

Here are a few photos that were sent to me from Nicole and her mom.

She was opening her presents!  So nice to see that Chad got dressed up for Christmas.  :)

Not sure what she’s doing with her hand.  I think Nicole reads to her a whole lot.

Looks like it was Addie’s turn at karaoke.

I cannot, cannot, cannot wait to see her again!

I Hereby Declare . .

After reading my emails this morning, seeing several interesting quilt shop sales and clicking a few too many buttons, I hereby declare that the last stash report of this year, and all years hereafter, shall be shared purely for entertainment purposes!

I do believe no further explanation or discussion of this topic is needed, right?

Thinking About 2013

Some time during the days before Christmas, my husband dragged me out of the house . . kicking and screaming, as I so often do when I have to go shopping with him.  One of the stops was Wal-Mart and I told him I would ride with him but I was not getting out of the car.  I took along my knitting but . . as you might imagine, Vince stayed in Wal-Mart much longer than I expected and I got tired of knitting and began doodling.  I came up with a list of quilts I’d like to get done in 2013.

Denise’s birds aren’t on there but I’m going to try to keep up with her on that too and you know there will be new quilts I wish to do also.  Back to Square One Mystery isn’t on the list but of course, that’s going to get done in 2013.

There are 12 quilts on list.  One, Vince’s Texas Quilt, is done except for quilting and binding.  Addie’s Owl Quilt needs borders and quilting.  Five of the quilts are not started yet.  That means five are at various stages of completion.  I can do it if I don’t get sidetracked with too many new projects.

As far as knitting, I may just stick with socks in 2013.  It doesn’t get cold enough here to justify sweaters or many scarves.  I can make a few scarves, or cowls for gifts for friends in colder climates but mostly for me, it’s going to be socks in 2013.  I’m seriously thinking about not doing Camp Loopy this summer.  I’m so busy with the garden during the summer and the projects are bigger than socks and it takes forever for me to knit them and I only have a month and I feel like I should be knitting when I’m working in the garden, and I feel like I should be in the garden when I’m knitting and there’s no time for sewing . . so, while I may change my mind, as of now I’m thinking I won’t be doing Camp Loopy.

I never seem to get tired of knitting socks.  They’re quite portable.  They make great gifts.  Even the wool socks aren’t scratchy or overly hot here but I don’t wear socks much in the summer.

Anyone else have any goals set for quilting or other hobbies in the coming year?
