We’d have a whole lot more smoothies around here if they were easier to make so I decided to make up some “kits”.
I started with a couple of peeled bananas and sliced them into the bottom of three containers. Then I sliced some strawberries and added some blueberries and placed those in the freezer.
When it was time to make the smoothies, I thawed one container just a little . . so it wouldn’t be rock hard when I put it in my old blender. Then I added a bit of vanilla low fat yogurt and some low fat almond milk. Once all that is blended, I added a handful of spinach.
Once that’s all blended up, I added a few tablespoons of chia seed.
Chia seeds are supposed to have lots of health benefits but there are also some risks associated with them. Do your homework before taking them but we have been using them without any problems.
Good stuff and with my little “kits” made up, they’re so quick and easy to make.

Your smoothie sounded delicious—until you added spinach and chia seeds! I would have loved it with just the fruit. Green colored drinks don’t appeal to me at all, no matter how healthy they may be!
Don’t worry about the spinach! I have smoothies daily for lunch. I make mine the way Judy does. I put in spinach and, believe me, you cannot taste it. Spinach is one of the top 10 green vegies. In addition, I have put kale in mine (#3 on the list) and you know how everyone loves kale!
Note: the kale does cause a little chewiness, but no taste. I’ve also put in carrots or green peppers. I normally use two vegies in my smoothie.
My drinks aren’t green either. It may be the amount of fruit I use or the fact that I don’t use blueberries.
And, Judy, I love the idea of chia seeds. I’m going to go out and buy some of wonderful things!
So do you use the Chai seeds for the fiber? Have you seen any weight loss? I’m curious since we both could lose weight but the hubby needs to be careful with blood sugar too. He doesn’t have diabetes but she told him to be mindful of what he eats and watch how it affects glucose in the body. Anything that tastes good and helps him with that is a winner with me! Where do you buy it? Amazon?
LOL. You don’t even taste the spinach! I do this for b’fast every morning! A good way to get your ration of veggies and fruits for hte day and stay healthy
Put 1/4 cup oatmeal and chia seeds in blender first, chop into flour like powder. Then do the rest, gives you the benefits of your oats, seeds are finer, this here i my 5 day a week breakfast. Cucumbers and spirulina are good adds too.
I’ve been making smoothies since last year when I bought this fantastic machine, a Blendtex blender. It even makes hot soup with next to nothing amounts and tastes so good. The recipe book that came with it has lots of smoothies with spinach in them too. They use toasted flax seeds for the additional fiber and good amino acids. They smell wonderful when you open the bag of flax seeds. I have not found one recipe yet that is not delicious.
I freeze my greens. When forzen, crumble them so they take less room. This way you can put them in your kit as well as rotate them.
