Mystery or Quilt Along?

Yesterday while doodling in Electric Quilt, I came up with a quilt design that I really like and think it would be a good one to share.  I’ve created a poll to help decide how to do this.

It could be a mystery where you wouldn’t see the finished top before beginning.  I would give you hints about fabric choices.  I would also give you the completed size of the quilts.

It could be a Quilt Along where you see what you will be making before you decide if you want to participate.

It can move slowly — as in 1 clue per week that would be easily to do in that week’s time.

It can move quickly — as in a clue every day or several times a week.  These would require less sewing than the once a week clue but you’ll have to find sewing time several days per week to keep up.

The quilt will have an optional pieced border — it can be made with plain borders or a pieced border and additional plain borders for balance can be added.  Instructions/fabric requirements will be given for both.

Please only cast your vote if you think there’s a chance you would do this project, which will probably start within the next month.

Thank you!

Hey I’m first! Sorry no opinion on “mystery or quilt along” cuz I prob wouldn’t do either at this point in time. Not saying I don”t love looking at all the stuff you come up with – I just have no opinion. But the reason I’m responding is to ask you whether you’d consider doing any tuts for designing and using EQ. I recvd for Christmas – done all their tuts but I’m still lost. I did find one online that I think will help. But you seem to know so much about it-I thought that might be something you could/would share. Thanks

Diana, I hate to tell you this but I really don’t know much about EQ. I know how to do the things I know how to do but there’s so very much I don’t know how to do. Probably three nights a week, I take the EQ manual to bed with me (OK . . you know how exciting my life is), and fall asleep before ever opening it. There’s a wealth of information on the EQ website and there are some great tutorials out there but I’m afraid I couldn’t help you much. I do appreciate the confidence you have in me though! :)

Personally I like the once a week quilt along but I will do which ever one the majority wants to do. I always like you quilts and borders.

i LOVE a mystery, but the last 2 i have done have not been presented well enough to have me be in the mystery mood. i know that you would be a FANTASTIC presenter though and i could trust your materials list.
i like things to move quickly because i tend to set them aside if they last too long. hence my vote for a quickly moving quilt along.
no matter what you choose, i know i will be sewing along with you. and, i thank you for your generosity in sharing and your caring in asking what our preferences would be.

I have a real hard time with mysteries . . I guess I have control issues, so I lean towards a Quilt Along myself. I’d hate for someone to waste good fabric and not like the end result.

I prefer quickly too but will do what the majority wants to do and it’s looking like they want to go slowly. But, it’s all relative, right? :)

we don’t seem to be a group that likes suspense!

I like knowing what the final project will look like so I can pick colors that I can use in my home or as a gift. I hate to go to a lot of expense and work to find I really don’t like the finished product that well. And I like slow because sometimes I get behind and need time to catch up. If I know what I’m aiming at I can stay interested and not give up.

Since I’m mystery-ing along with Back to Square One, I’d be more interested in a quilt-along once a week (no way can I keep up with several days a week and pretend to enjoy it). But, your pattern, your rules :) and I’ll likely join in whatever you decide to do.

I voted quilt along. I love mysteries, but kind of like more of a controlled situation with a quilt along. Either way, I am very excited to see what you have dreamed up for us! :-)

What ever the group decides will be good for me. Either way, mystery or quilt a long I do vote for slow and easy wins the race!!!!!

I chose a slow quilt along because there is some hope in Hell that I might actually be able to participate. I tend to do things in fits and starts with multiple projects going at the same time (will I ever get the sock yarn on the needles???) but the quilt alongs I’ve seen looked like so much fun… I want to play too.

I’ve come to love a mystery. But I thoroughly enjoy your quilt alongs also, I’ll follow along with which ever you choose.

I love mysteries but not sure I could take on another project right now. I would print it off for later though. My bucket list is really long right now.

I love mysteries..slow or fast moving.. but I lean toward the slow quilt along only because I have so many projects for 2013 that I am already committed too.. you should see my
organization now to keep it all striaght and this was to be my year to do UFO projects..so I have a heaping plate but room for one more.. LOL
I am happy with whatever the majority wants to do.

I love everything you have shared with us so far. You are so creative and work so well with colors,I usually tend to stay with colors that make me smile I am trying to get a little braver and expand my colors. I like burgundy, slate blue hunter green and some tan(not much tan)I like bold, bright, electriccolors. Do youever write mystery quilts for our guilds? I am in charge of finding the a mystery quilt for our guild. We try to have them made by July 7 or first WE in july. Would you be interested in designing a mystery for our guild and if so how much would you charge? We are a small group of elderly ladies who meet the second Thursday in Krotz Springs,La. My ladies don’t care for hand applique says it takes to long.If you are interested please let me knowThanks Dana Pellerin KSQG We have one for this year so it would be next year.

A slow quilt-a-long would be wonderful. Mysteries and I don’t play we’ll together. Guess I want to know where I’m going before I start a journey.
