The first Meyer lemon tree that we bought is hanging on . . not doing great but not dead, yet. This was the second spring that it bloomed mightily and then the blooms fell off, the leaves fell off, it looked like it was sure to pass on to Lemon Tree Heaven but every now and then showed some signs of life. I read about things I could do to help it and have been doing those things. It has leaves . . not nice, dark green leaves, but it has leaves which is better than it had last summer.
The first part of May this year, we bought another Meyer lemon tree. I am determined to produce Meyer lemons, even though it will have to come inside during most of the winter.
When we bought it, it had lemons that looked like this:
One and a half months later, those lemons look like this:
These pictures may have been taken of the same lemons . . I’m not sure. I’ve been watching and counting and there were 14 lemons on the tree. But, it bloomed again and made about 6 more baby lemons and now it’s blooming again!
But, during a storm the other night, the whole pot blew over and a branch broke that had two lemons on it.
So, as of now . . 14 – 2 + 6 . . I should have 18 lemons and maybe I’ll get a few more out of those new blooms. I sure hated losing those two but at least the tree is alive and looks like it will produce at least a few lemons for us this year.
