It’s getting closer to the end of August and time to get our Dreambird projects going. Denise and I are hosting a “knit along” of sorts on this pattern. Details are on both of our sidebars with links to posts that we’ve made about this project. There are over 1,000 Dreambird projects listed on Ravelry so please check out some of those if you are struggling with yarns/colors to use. There are bright ones, dull ones, you name it and you can find it there. Lots of inspiration and help to be gained by looking at the projects listed there. If you aren’t sure about how to see the projects and yarn choices by others, Denise has that covered in her linked blog posts.
On Tuesday, August 20, I will post a link box where you post your yarn choices. Denise has two posts about yarn selection (see links on the sidebar).
How about Sunday, August 25, as a start date? It isn’t required that you start that day but I will begin posting a link box on Monday, Wednesday and Friday where we can share our progress and ask questions. In the link box you will be able to share a link to your blog that shows your progress. In the comments section, you will be able to ask questions or leave suggestions. Denise or I will try to answer your questions, or anyone else may leave a response. If needed, we will enlist the help of the designer.
As far as my yarn, I’ve narrowed it down to two choices . . I think.
The first is one the ladies at the yarn shop in Abilene thought would work. It’s also the one Nicole liked. The problems, as I see them are (1) Nicole chose the exact same teal colored yarn for a Song of the Sea Cowl, which is next in my queue and (2) I’m just not sure about the yarn. There’s a brownish color in the Noro and I’m thinking it may not show up against the teal. Besides . . the photos of this yarn are so far off. I took pictures inside, outside, without a flash, with a flash, in the sun, in the shade, and the yarn is showing up so blue-ish and it’s more teal than blue. That concerns me. Maybe it’s my eyes . . but dang . . how much yarn can I buy for this one project til I get it right. That’s what Vince is wondering too! :)
The second possibility is this:
Right now, that brown is looking so dark that it has me questioning if I shouldn’t have ordered a shade lighter but I wanted to be sure it didn’t blend with the tan. But, I loved the ones I saw that use black so maybe the brown isn’t too dark. Why is this so hard? It’s just yarn! I keep waiting for a combination that grabs me and says YES! I’m not there!
If I had to decide today .. and I do not . . I think I’d go with the brown, simply because I’m probably giving this to Nicole and there’s no need for her to have two out of the same color. On the other hand, I could make the teal one for me, practice on it so Nicole’s could be closer to perfect.
And yet another possibility, I think I have two more skeins of Noro around here somewhere. I don’t even remember what colors they are, nor do I suppose I would have anything solid-ish to use for the background. This makes me so wish we had a yarn shop nearby. And then I would wish they were open on Sunday so I could get this resolved today!
I’ll make a decision by Tuesday so I can share it on the linkup post.
