Even though I’ve been sewing during the day, I’ve been knitting in the evenings.
I’ve finished my Hinagiku hat for Loopy Academy.
This one is for Project #2 – Textured Stitches. Each project needs to use at last 225 yards. The pattern says it takes 219 to 262 yards. I used Shibui Knits Baby Alpaca and only had one skein, which was 255 yards so I had to be careful to be sure I used at least 225 yards but not run out of yarn. I ended up with about 10 yards leftover and I don’t like cutting it that close. This was a very fun pattern to knit and I loved the yarn! That was my first time using the Baby Alpaca and it will definitely go onto my wish list for another project . . some day.
This one is for Project #3 and it also has to use at least 225 yards and has to have cables. I have 2 skeins (300 yards) and the pattern calls for 250 yards so I should e safe with this one. Oh, how I love cables! And, I love Malabrigo yarn. Most of their yarns feel so good. I’ve learned though that the softer the yarn, in most cases, the more likely it is to pill or felt and the coarser the yarn, the better it’s going to hold up so I’m trying to forego softness for durability in sweaters and socks and save all the really soft stuff for hats, fingerless mits, shawls and things that aren’t going to get so much wear, especially in one area more than other areas. Anyway, this is Malabrigo Silky Merino, color is Azules. I’m hoping to finish this hat tonight or maybe tomorrow night.
Project #1 is a pillow in worsted or bulky weight. I’m about 1/3 done with that one. The pattern I’m using is really easy and something I can do in the car so I’m saving that for an upcoming road trip. No, the trip is not to MO! 🙁
