This morning Vince left early to be at the car place when they opened at 8 to get the pickup inspected, then go to the courthouse and get new registrations for all the vehicles. That’s the good thing about moving – all your vehicle registrations come due at the same time whereas, if you buy a car in March and then 15 years later (if you’re us!), you buy one in July, then one is probably coming due in March and another in July.
I asked him where all he was going. Just to get the truck inspected and to get the oil changed, to the courthouse and that’s it.
He forgets the Home Depot receipts come to my email. The first receipt was for bales of sphagnum/peat for the garden so that was good.
How many trimmers do we have here? At least two gasoline models (not counting the new one), three that have rechargeable batteries and one that is electric so, yes .. of course, we needed one more!
You may remember that for Christmas, 2010, he got me a trimmer for my birthday and another one for Christmas .. both in 2010. That blog post is here. We were living in MO, in town where we had to keep all our weeds immaculately trimmed, and there was a sidewalk in front, as well as a sidewalk going all the way around the house and I think he was telling me to cut my on darned weeds if they bothered me.
Then, in September, 15, he bought me another weed trimmer. That blog post is here. We (1) should never need to buy another weed trimmer and (2) have no excuse for having weeds!
On a funnier note, the guys at the oil change place do the inspections. They inspected the truck, then went to change the oil. The guy came back and said “Dude, you’ve only driven 300 miles since we changed the oil in this truck last year!” They looked at the oil on the dipstick and decided the oil could go another year. Poor old truck! We pay probably $400 per year for insurance on it, $75 for registration and that’s about all it costs us to keep it. It’s the only way to get our trash to the dump and we don’t have trash pickup out here so . . we keep it. It’s also our only vehicle with a trailer hitch so when we need to move something with the trailer, we have to use the pickup.
I know a very nice family here who has a bunch of kids . . some in high school and some very near college age. When we leave here, we’ll probably see if they want the pickup and the CRV and just give the vehicles to them. We’ll leave here with just the Highlander and it can become our second vehicle. If I have my way, we’ll buy a nice pickup for our main vehicle but somehow, I see us buying another Highlander and then getting a used pickup if we’re living out in the country again. Who knows . . a lot can happen in two years but right now, that’s how I see the vehicle situation playing out.

If it has the word “Sale” or “Marked Down” on it, whether we need it or not, it’s coming home with us if Vince has his way.
