Pressure Cooker Article

Consumer Reports has a good article on pressure cookers that you might find helpful if you’re looking for one.

I don’t think you can go wrong with a Kuhn Rikon and my favorite place to buy these type things is Pleasant Hill Grain.  If you’re wanting to get one that’s a bit less expensive, go with a Presto but I do not like the aluminum ones as much as I like the stainless steel Presto models.  Lots of places, even Wal-Mart, have Presto but the only one I saw at our Wal-Mart was aluminum.  Target has a Presto 6 quart aluminum pot for $29.99, the 6 quart stainless is $79.99 ($59.97 at Wal-Mart.com) and the Kuhn Rikon 5 liter (5-1/4 quart) at Pleasant Hill Grain is $219 or the 7 liter (7-1/3 quart) is $249.  Big difference in price but in my opinion, there’s a big enough difference in the pot to make the price difference worth paying.

New Pot

In my frustration over the TV, I broke down and ordered a new pot I’d been wanting.

I have two that are 6 or 7 quart.  One is a 100th anniversary model Presto and it’s a whole lot like the Kuhn Rikon brand . . heavy and has that second smaller handle which makes a big difference.  I hardly ever go a day without using the pressure cooker for something.  I’d been wanting a smaller one but kept talking myself out of it . . mostly because my shelves where I store my pots are overflowing.  I need to get rid if some of the pots I don’t like but I just haven’t done that.  One day I’d say to myself that having a larger cooker is fine . . doesn’t matter if the cooker is bigger than what I really need and the next day I’d say to myself that I really, really want this cute little 3.5 litre so . . it’s done.  I ordered it and now I can’t wait for it to get here.

Do you use a pressure cooker?  For years I was afraid to use them.  My grandma always made it seem so dangerous!  I guess it could be but in all the years I’ve been using them, I’ve never had a scary incident.

At least with a pressure cooker, I can prepare meals quickly and spend less time disturbing the TV viewing in the family room! :)

Great Customer Service

When I get bad service, I’m real quick to let the world know and I try to do the same when I get really good service.  One company that I’ve done a good bit of business with lately is Pleasant Hill Grain.  Those people are so nice!  They’re quick with their shipping, their prices are the best I’ve found, they’re quick with answering questions.  My questions are usually something like “What do I need?” and you know how hard those kinds of questions are to answer.

Grain Mill – When I was looking for a grain mill, I had done so much research and my brain was on overload.  I finally called the ladies at Pleasant Hill Grain (PHG) and . . I don’t remember what I said and I hope they don’t either because they were probably thinking . . this poor lady doesn’t have a clue what she wants . . but they recommended the Family Grain Mill and it’s perfect.  You know how  much I use and love that thing.

Meat Slicer – I kinda knew what I wanted . . I think I got what CJ recommended.  I still had questions though and the nice ladies at PHG answered them all.  I ended up with the Chef’s Choice 667 and I use it a lot!  It’s so much better to cook our own roast beef or ham and slice it instead of buying deli meat in the stores.

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer – I’d wanted this thing for a while so I didn’t have to make but one phone call to get my questions answered.  I kinda got my order screwed up Saturday evening and didn’t realize it til I’d already sent it all in via the internet.  I wrote customer service but figured it would be Monday before I heard from them.  On Sunday I got an e-mail and we got everything fixed up with my order.

They have everything — Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers are fantastic if you don’t have one of those!  Anyway, if you get the urge to order any kind of kitchen gadgets, please check out Pleasant Hill Grain.  They’re the best!  No affiliation . . just a very satisfied customer!
