The Apps I Love

For you Apple users, what’s your favorite App?

The app for my grocery list is Grocery Gadget by Flixoft.  The other is Meal Planner by 2010 InnovaDev.  Meal Planner has a grocery list included but I had already been using the Grocery Gadget list so I have continued with it.  I’m able to keep lists for Wal-Mart, the grocery store, the quilt shop (you know — I could need a black fabric or something to match something!)  :)   I also have a list for when I go to Kansas City.  There’s always something Vince or I will say “we need to look for this or that when we go to Kansas City” and then when we get there, we say “what were we going to look for when we were here?” and we never can remember.  And, I can email the list to me to print or save in Word or whatever.  Or, I can email the grocery list to Vince and ask him to stop by the grocery store.  He loves to do that for me . . really!

For those who asked what size Touch, I got the 64 MB.  For not so much more $$, the 64 is double the space of the 32.  When I go to Louisiana, I’m always wanting to show mom or friends pictures and it’s so easy to share them with the Touch so I didn’t want to be limited in the space.  And I put all my music on it too so I can carry just this one when I go out of town.  It will plug in to my car radio and charges from there so I love that.

If we can just get Electric Quilt to come up with an app . . I’d never ask for anything else!  :)

And for those who mentioned getting an iPhone and having one less gadget . . not for me.  Even with the Blackberry, I have to watch my usage when traveling because I want to make sure I have enough battery power for when I need the cell phone.  I don’t want to use my phone for all the things I use the iPod or digital camera for.  And, because I saw myself becoming one of those people who can’t get far from the cell phone, I think when my current contract is up, I’m going back to a plain phone . . no internet, may keep texting . . may not.  Next week AT&T will offer different data plans and I’m going to switch from the unlimited $30 plan to a 200 MB plan for $15.  I love gadgets, I love the BlackBerry, I love the iPhone but I also love the freedom of knowing I can leave home without a gadget in my hand and it’s time for me to prove to myself that I can still do that.

Guess What’s Found

Today on Lime Green Kitchen:

Jailhouse Rolls – they’re yummy and you can make the dough ahead and save it in the fridge for up to 14 days.

Unless this is your very first day to read my blog (if it is, please come back again soon!), then you know two electronic items I dearly love have been missing.  One is my beloved iPod and the second is my BlackBerry that I still have a love/hate relationship with.

The iPod is a bit illusive.  I lost it and then about a week later, I found it.  But then I lost it again.  I promised myself I would never ever lose it again.  I would always put it back in the exact same spot . . forever and ever . . I would never lose it again.  Til June of this year (I casually mentioned it in this post), I lost the iPod again.  Truly, I spent days searching for it and couldn’t find it anywhere so I said to myself . . I’ve wasted enough time looking for this thing and purchased a new one.

Six months later . . I have not lost the new iPod not even once.  When we’re going somewhere — trip, doctor’s appointment, Home Depot . . most anywhere — I always grab a bag with a knitting project, the Kindle, the iPod, or whatever else I feel like grabbing.  My theory was that I would find the iPod in a bag somewhere with a knitting project.  I was wrong.

Yesterday Vince found it in his junkroom office.

I never go into his office . . ever!  It’s scary in there.  The charging base was with the iPod and I never use the charging base because my docking station charges the iPod.   I must have had the iPod and charging base with me when we went on spring break last year and we’re thinking it got packed with some of Vince’s stuff.  I’m very happy to have it back because it has a whole bunch of books from when I was a member of Audible and I no longer have those files.

I am never going to lose it again . . ever!  :)

About that BlackBerry . . still haven’t found it and I doubt we ever do.

Opinion on New Stuff

I often share things I’ve bought and while I don’t generally share normal day to day appliances and gizmos, I share those that are a bit out of the ordinary, or to me they are anyway.  Do you ever wonder what I think of them after having used them for a while?  Well, here you go! :)

ironIt’s been a while since I bought this T-Fal iron.  I got it for about $30 at Amazon, where it’s no longer available.  I love it!  Doesn’t leak a drop, and has great steam.  I am using bottled water in it because our water goes through the water softener and it says not to use softened water.

BB

The BlackBerry . . it works as it’s supposed to work.  I’m not one of those who lives with the cell phone attached to my ear.  In fact, most of the time I don’t have a clue where it is but when I’m traveling, it does what I need for it to do.  The other day I was out and wanted to know the name of the auto audio guy here in our town so I got out my phone, googled “auto audio Nevada, MO” and up popped the shop with the phone number.  I clicked on the phone number right there and called the shop!  That’s pretty neat! As far as doing what it’s supposed to do, it’s great.  As far as whether I could live without it . . yes, I could but I have to have some kind of cell phone so I’m glad I have it though if I could only grab one thing to take with me, I doubt it would be the BlackBerry.

rice

This was pretty pricey as far as rice cookers go and I wondered if I’d regret buying it but my old rice cooker was pretty worthless.  I can cook white rice great on the stove but some of the more exotic brown rices gave me a hard time and I often didn’t have a spare burner on the stove.  This rice cooker is amazing!  I’ve made several types of brown rice (Golden Rose is our favorite) and they’ve always turned out perfect!  Even Vince thinks it was worth the price and that doesn’t happen often . . Mr. Bargain Hunter! :)

kindleNot sure I can describe how much I love this little gadget.  It isn’t for everyone but if you’ve been wanting one and it’s in the budget, please order it!   I had read about it for a while and then kept wondering if I’d rather have the Kindle DX or the Kindle 2 so I waited til the DX was out, read reviews and decided the Kindle 2 was for me.   I love it!  Did you know that you can download the first chapter or some small portion of a book for free to decide if you want to buy it or not?  Even with authors that I love, there have been times when I bought a book and just couldn’t get into it.  Being able to read the first chapter pretty much tells me if I’m going to want to read the book or not.  I’m so glad I got this!

OK . . that’s it!  I’m not buying anything else for a very long time but for those who wondered how I like some of my recent purchases, now you know.
