Speck wakes up each morning . . well, I wake Speck up. He’s a lot like I was when I was younger. He could sleep til noon but nope, no slacking around here. We have chores to do and chickens waiting to be let out of the coop so we’re up about daylight. Maybe that’s why I’m ready for winter . . it will get daylight later and I can sleep a little later.
Speck is such a creature of habit. Wonder where he learned that! He gets up and makes his way to the breakfast room where we have his crate. He goes in and gets comfy but then he remembers . . EGGS! He gets scrambled eggs for breakfast, with a little yogurt for his tummy problems. Then he comes out of the crate and sits in front of the stove and whines til someone fixes him an egg or two.

The first green egg I was so proud to get . . Speck got it for breakfast. The funny thing is — the inside of the shell was green too. You know how dyed Easter eggs are only colored on the outside . . it was funny to see it colored on the inside too. I told my mom: The egg as green on the inside too! She said ” GREEN ON THE INSIDE TOO??” I guess I didn’t explain it quite right but the yolk was yellow, the white was clear, the inside of the shell was GREEN!
You think that’s funny . . the other day I sent some eggs with Vince to give to my friend who works with him. That was before the eggs started getting bigger and they were kinda small. Here’s the discussion.
Me: These eggs are kinda small. Tell her they’ll get bigger.
Vince: NO!
Me: Yes, they’re always small at first and they get bigger.
Vince . . just looking at me like I was nuts: They are NOT going to get bigger in the carton!
Me: NO! After the chickens have been laying for a while, they will lay larger eggs.
See . . when you don’t understand what I’m saying, it isn’t you. I know what I’m thinking but I don’t always say it correctly!
