That’s a Weird Egg

Most of the eggs I get are perfect.  Because . . well, I have perfect chickens!  :)   But this one!  Not sure who laid this but it was one of the red ones.

You think that looks bad?  Look at it from this view!

Pretty ugly, huh?  But that’s ok because Smokey is laying these gorgeous blueish green eggs almost every day!

And you know what else?  I need new countertop.  This brown countertop just doesn’t work for photographing those brown eggs!  I’m calling Vince right now and telling him I want new countertop.  And before he ever responds, I can tell you what his response will be!  “We need a new house!”  The translation:  We’re not doing anything to that house because we’re not staying there!

Busy Girls

My chickens haven’t slowed down with their laying.  Now that it’s gotten really cold, they may but Friday I was begging people to take eggs!  Found homes for 4 dozen of them but we hardly used any eggs this weekend.  Maybe it’s time to make creme brulee!  :)

Feels Like Home

When traveling, do you bring things from home that help you feel “at home”?

Look what’s sitting on the dresser in my room!  Two eggs from my own chickens.  How’s that for feeling like home?

Only difference is . . I’m not getting up at daylight to let them out!

The reason I have those two eggs . . I brought 4 dozen eggs with me but as I was leaving home, I went to say goodbye to the girls and there were two more eggs so I stuck them in with my stuff so . . I’m bringing 4 dozen and 2 eggs with me . . if those 2 don’t get broken along the way.  Hope not!

Love Notes

Don’t you just love it when you honey leaves you a love note?  We don’t do that often enough.  There was a time when I bought lots of cards and I’d sometimes stick a little note in Vince’s shirt pocket or Chad’s lunch box.  I used to even mail cards to Vince at work but . . well, heck . . we just don’t do that kind of stuff any more.  Here’s how cheap we are now . . Vince will call me to the greeting card aisle at Wal-Mart and say “Here, read this.  I chose it for you (birthday, Valentine’s, whatever) but you can just read it here and I don’t have to buy it!”  It doesn’t bother me.  I know he loves me and for the cost of a greeting card, I can buy a fat quarter or sometimes a half yard of fabric!

Thank goodness my chickens take the time to let me know they love me!

egg

Look at that heart on the end of the egg Ruby left me this morning.  How sweet is that?  Who needs a greeting card when your chickens can do this with their eggs?

I’m thinking this egg should be worth lots of money.  If the image of  Superman or The Virgin Mary on a screen door is worth money, don’t you think a heart on an egg should be worth enough to send my son to law school?
