Be Careful What You Share

One of my favorite places to eat is Fogo de Chao and it isn’t because of the limitless melt in your mouth served at your table meats.  It’s those little rolls.  For us, the cost of eating there is kinda high and Vince thinks we should eat the meat in order to get our money’s worth.  I’m perfectly happy to sit there and eat the warm rolls as soon as they bring them out.  I like the salad too and while the meat is always good . . I’d take the rolls over the meat any day.

A blog reader, Ida, sent me a this recipe.  They’re so good and I’ve been making them at home for a while now.  After searching and finally finding tapioca flour in Lake Charles, I made the rolls for mom and dad.  They’re hooked.  They keep wanting more!  Tonight after dinner, way too late to be eating bread, mom asked for the rolls.

This was mom’s plate and I think she’d already eaten a dozen before I got the picture.  She and dad put jelly in them . . I put butter in mine.  Either way, it’s not the best bedtime snack but they sure are good.  They’re easy and mom should be able to make them after I’m gone.

Eatin’ & Shoppin’

Vince took off work today and we drove up to Kansas City. We couldn’t stop thinking of the yummy lamb chops we had at a restaurant there a month or so ago so we gave in to our desires and went back and got more.  Slabs of ribs cooking . . though we didn’t eat ribs.

We walked around The Plaza for a while, did a bit of shopping and felt more like a tourist.  Make that a tourist who’s been in a small town way too long.

In front of Tivol, there was a policeman.  I stopped and talked to him .. thought he was just patrolling the district but no, he stands there in front of Tivol all day . . waiting for the bad guys that I’d almost forgotten even exist.

Then I saw this:

All you city folks . . stop laughing!  I’ve never seen a “doggie bar”.  Walked on down a bit farther and found this:

Dog1

They’re everywhere!  I never knew it was so popular to take your dog out shopping.  I guess most dogs are better behaved than mine!

Found these shoes.  Not sure why I liked them so much but I did.  They’re comfortable and every now and then, I have to take off the rubber boots and jeans and get dressed up so these will get used occasionally.  (All the pix today were taken with the cell phone and I must’ve wiggled a bit while taking this photo.)

By now we’d walked off a bit of our lunch and stopped for custard.

Then we stopped at Target in Belton, MO and got a few househould essentials.  I always stock up on toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, detergents, etc. so I don’t have to go shopping from about November 1 til after Christmas.  No way am I fighting the traffic, crowds and lines for things I can get now so I think I’m all set.  Actually I look for any excuse to avoid shopping.

That’s it . . we drove home.  Vince is napping in the recliner and I’m thinking of waking him so we can run down to the college and see how my Power Point presentation works before I take it with me on my next trip Friday.

A Dining Experience

Last week, being the nice mom that I am, I told Chad we would go to Joplin on Friday and get a few things that he needed for back to school.  Chad being the manipulator that he is . . or is that just how all 21 year olds are . . decided that if we went to Kansas City instead, he could get what he needed from Cabela’s and save the shipping costs.  That’s another thing I don’t understand . . how does Cabela’s end up on the back to school shopping list?  Beats me!

I do not like Kansas City traffic and, to get to Cabela’s, we had to cross the 435 bridge.  Chad offered to drive but . . I’d rather have a panic attack than ride through KC traffic with him driving.  I made it over the bridge without too much of a problem.  Coming back was a piece of cake!  Maybe I’m more afraid of my bridge fear than the actual bridges themselves.  Maybe not!

Chad had also suggested that we eat at Fogo de Chao.   We really enjoyed that restaurant.  It’s down in the The Plaza area and I love that part of Kansas City.  Almost makes the KC traffic worth the trip.

Chad grabbed the wine list.  Right!  That wasn’t happening.

My salad! Just seeing the picture makes me want to go back there!

By the time they brought the lamb around, I was stuffed and didn’t get it.  Chad had only had lamb once, years ago when we smoked it, and we all agreed it was horrible!  He’s taking a bite and thinking about it.

Yum!  Good! He’ll have some more!  And, if you think he was happy about the camera making the trip . . you would be incorrect! :)

Yes, we’ll definitely go back to this restaurant.  It may be better than the Thai restaurant in Joplin that I love so much!
