Ila’s Choice

Months and months ago . . maybe over a year ago, I did a giveaway and the prize was one of my quilts.  A reader, Ila, won the quilt.  At the time, most everything was packed so I wrote her that I would get back with her “soon”.

Then we moved and had to have the sewing room built and things were still packed. Then there was the retreat in February and then one thing after another and I told myself that I was not going to let 2012 end without me getting a quilt to Ila.

Yesterday I grabbed a few quilts and sent pictures to Ila to choose which one she wanted.

Option #1:

This one is smaller, bright and batiks.  I couldn’t measure them before sending her pictures because I had been out helping Vince and had paint on my hands.  Add more points for me in that “good wife” competition!  :)

This one is a little larger than the first one . . probably twin size.

Ila’s Choice

This quilt is in my first book, Nine Patch Extravaganza.  Ila has the book and said she actually has this quilt marked to make some day so this is the one she chose.  Today I will get it boxed up, and get it in the mail to her.  I’m thankful that Ila is a patient lady and I’m sorry I took so long to get this too her but at least it’s a quilt she will like and now she will have one and will not have to make it herself.

The Quilt on the Bed

The quilt on my bed in the photos yesterday caught the attention of some of you.  It’s Starlight Path-

from Nine Patch Extravaganza.  It was my first book and some of my favorite patterns are in there.

The books do not come spiral bound.  I get the ones bound that I travel with so it’s each for folks to look through them. The quilt that’s in the book was made by Nancy Miller and she used a beautiful turquoise where I used red in the quilt on the bed.

Weekend Quilts in Top 10

A blog reader, Donna, sent me an email letting me know that on the Quilters Newsletter Blog, they have a post listing the Top 10 Quilt Books for 2010 and Weekend Quilts is #5.

You think that made my day?  Yep!  It made me very happy.  This is a great time to thank you all who have bought my books through the past few years.  I know our budgets are stretched and I know there’s only so much money to spend on quilting supplies so I’m thrilled that you’ve chosen to spend a few of those hard earned dollars on either Nine Patch Extravaganza, Weekend Quilts or the new 60 Pieced Quilt Borders books!  Thank you!!

Which Backing

This top was made to test a pattern for my first book, Nine Patch Extravaganza.  It’s time it got quilted and found itself a new home so it will be donated to the Texas wildfire victims.

In this picture, along with the top, is a potential backing fabric.  The fabric is tan/brown with a little blue flower.  I have a ton of this fabric and since  the top could be masculine enough for a man, I question whether the floral fabric should be used for the backing.

Since there’s so much of that blue/tan floral, I would love to use it but I also have this piece that’s probably better, though I don’t have a lot of it and would have to add other fabrics to make it large enough for the backing.

Which backing fabric would you use?
