Mid-Day Thursday Report

Here’s what I have on the design wall so far.

There are a bunch more blocks partially made so I’ll keep on sewing.  Speck is not feeling good and he’s been outside dozens of times today.  I sew 10 minutes and he wants to go out.  We go out for 10 minutes, I sew for 10 minutes and he wants to go out again.  I’m so hoping he’s not getting as sick as he was last year but he’s having the same symptoms.  I’m pretty worried about him.

Scraps Ahoy Instructions

Make as many blocks as you want!  The blocks are 12″ finished.  4 blocks across and 6 blocks up and down will make a top that’s 48″ x 72″ without borders.  If you make 5 blocks across and 7 up and down, the top will be 60″ x 84″ without borders.

Here’s the block:

The block is divided into two parts and each 12″ block requires two of each of these parts:

Section 1:

and Section 2:

The more fabrics you use, the easier it will be to not have two of the same fabrics in one block, if that matters to you.

For Section 1, you need:

  • 1 – 2-1/2″ square of Fabric 1 (where I used mint green in the sample)
  • 1 – 2-1/2″ square and 1 -2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ rectangle of Fabric 2 (where I used red in the sample)
  • 1 – 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ rectangle and 1 – 2-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ rectangle of Fabric 3 (where I used brown in the sample)

For Section 2, you need a scrappy quarter square triangle that is 6-1/2″ unfinished or 6″ finished.  You can use the 4-7/8″ Go! triangle to cut the triangles (4 needed for each section) or you can do however you want to make your quarter square triangles.  If I weren’t using the Go!, I’d cut 7-1/4″ squares and cut them on the diagonal twice so I had 4 triangles from each square.

I cut a variety of triangles and got started.  I will cut more as I need them.  (Ignore that little black triangle sitting there.  It missed the trash can.  I do NOT save pieces that size.)

And I made one block.  It goes so quickly! My goal is to get at least 15 blocks made tomorrow!  How many can you get made?

Quiltathon – Scraps Ahoy!

This morning I was working on a block for a submission and any time I’m playing with Electric Quilt 7, I come up with way more ideas than I need.  I was playing with this blocks and decided it would make a fantastic scrap/stash quilt.

And, it’s GO! friendly. If you have a Go! Cutter, you need the 2-1/2″ strip die, 2-1/2″ square die (or you could just whack 2-1/2″ squares off the 2-1/2″ strips) and the 4-7/8″ triangle die.  That’s it!  For those who do not have the Go! Cutter . . what are you waiting for?

Here’s what an entire quilt would look like.

You can make it as large or as small as you’d like, add borders or not . . but you will surely get rid of a lot of scraps!  I’ll post more detailed instructions later today — as soon as I make sure they’re right.

Quiltathon

Because I cannot seem to find time to sew these days, I’m declaring Thursday and Friday as Quiltathon days for me.  Anyone want to join me?  For newer readers, a Quiltathon means we try to do nothing but sew on those days!  I get as much cooking ahead of time done as I can, I get as much housekeeping chores done ahead of time as I can.  I try to stay home — stay out of the garden and stay out of the kitchen and bury myself in the sewing room.

Join me if you can!  I’ll be tweeting through the day about my progress.  Tweets are posted at the bottom of the blog for any who want to follow along with my two day sewing marathon.

If enough of you want to join me, I’ll put up a Mr. Linky box on Friday afternoon where we can share our progress on our blogs.  Let me know if you’re able to participate.
