Sweet Treat Pattern Added

In 2010, we did the Sweet Treat project as a Quilt Along. The pattern is so very simple and forgiving!  A participant in the Quilt Along just reminded me that I never posted this to the Free Patterns page so I’ve done that now.

And, here’s mine.  The top has now been quilted but is waiting to be bound.  Something to be added to my UFO list!

Sweet Treat Quilted

This is the Color Palette Challenge for May.  This may be the first month I’ve actually quilted the top, though I’ve made a top for each month so far.

This quilt makes me smile – it’s happy and bright!  The batting is Warm & Natural.  The top thread is Signature Cotton, color Daisy.  Even though the background is white, I thought using white thread would stand out like a sore thumb on the orange fabric so I went with the pale yellow thread. The bobbin is Perma Core and the color is Rye Beige.  The panto, my favorite, is Square Spiral by Keryn Emmerson.

The backing is pieced, using a piece of fabric that’s been in my stash since the late 90’s.  If I recall correctly, this piece was a gift from a Secret Sister program.  The orange sections aren’t nearly as “standouttish” as they appear in the photo.  This orange is actually in the backing fabric and this is the orange that will be used for the binding so it will kinda “frame” the backing and then have those two strips across the back.

Sweet Treat Photos

I’ve created a Flickr group (I think) where you may add photos of your top or progress on this project.  I haven’t done this before so it may take a bit of tweaking to get it to work.

Once I set up the Sweet Treat pattern on the free patterns page, I’ll add this link so it will be easy to find.

Sweet Treat Quilt Along – Part 4

After the first borders, which were given in Part 3, it’s time for the pieced borders.

See edit below:

This border can be made using all plain, non-pieced squares/rectangles — some cut 4-1/2″ and some cut 5″ x 4-1/2″ (to make the top and bottom strips measure 51-1/2″ and the side borders need to measure 60-1/2″) or a mixture of some plain and some pieced.  For the pieced, they need to be 4-1/2″ unfinished/4″ finished.  I used leftover 2″ strips that were cut for the main blocks and then trimmed the squares down to 4-1/2″.

The next two borders:

 Border #3 – Background Fabric:
Sides – 2-1/2″ x 68-1/2″
Top & Bottom – 2-1/2″ x 63-1/2″

Border #4 – Any Fabric
Sides – 4-1/2″ x 72-1/2″
Top & Bottom – 4-1/2″ x 71-1/2″

The finished quilt should measure 71″ x 80″.

Edit:

I wasn’t happy with this pieced border so I changed it to 3″ finished squares, which are cut 3-1/2″.  The side borders will have 20 squares and the top and bottom borders will have 19 squares.

The remaining borders will be changed as follows and the finished top will now measure 69″ x 78″.

Border #3 – Background Fabric:
Sides – 2-1/2″ x 66-1/2″
Top & Bottom – 2-1/2″ x 61-1/2″

Border #4 – Any Fabric
Sides – 4-1/2″ x 70-1/2″
Top & Bottom – 4-1/2″ x 69-1/2″
