Progress is being made on the insurance claim for the Matchless spinning wheel.
As far as UPS, we got off to a rocky start with their handling of the insurance claim but I’m happy with the way it’s being handled now. My seller/shipper had two trips back to back so part of the delay was simply because she was busy and traveling and she and I had to talk since I have the wheel and UPS was dealing with her; she had questions for me before confirming anything with UPS. We don’t have anything written in stone yet, but it looks like UPS is going to pay the full amount of the insurance coverage, and due to the amount quoted, I’m assuming they’re refunding the shipping charges also. My understanding is that the claims folks are recommending full payment and it has to be approved by the next department up the food chain (so to speak) and once approved, the shipper should receive the check within 10 business days. I’m hoping by the end of this week, the payment will be approved so before the end of November, she should have the money.
At that point, I believe I will go ahead and order a new Matchless and keep my fingers crossed that it arrives safely.
Here’s something I never thought much about but it will change the way I order expensive things in the future, especially from individuals. When insurance is purchased from the shipping companies, it’s purchased by the shipper, which is usually the seller, so that is who the shipping companies deal with and who they pay. In my instance, my seller/shipper is a friend and someone I’ve known for a long time and I trust completely and even though she’s so busy this time of year, she and her husband have done an excellent job of staying on top of this.
Suppose I had purchased this from someone I didn’t know and they happened to be a crook. They have my check, and then the insurance money goes to them. I could have been out the full amount of what I paid and never see a dime of insurance money.
It’s just something I never thought about before and it makes me less likely to buy some big item via an internet seller in the future.
I read somewhere that the cut off date for ordering a new Matchless and getting it before Christmas is mid-November so I’m probably not going to have a new Matchless til after the first of the year but . . all that aside, we still don’t know 100% that UPS is paying the full value, and I’m not about to order another one til I’m 100% sure.

I’ve learned something also. Never realized the insurance money would go to the seller/shipper. So glad it will soon be over. I have a Ladybug wheel which is wonderful.

I don’t know how you paid for this, but I was wondering if she wouldn’t simply ship you a replacement when the insurance is settled? Maybe by FedEx this time! =)

It’s a used machine from an individual.

I bought my maple matchless from them and they had it in stock. Nice people and it arrived in perfect condition. They also had a better price.
