I know . . this is one day a year for us and some people have this for months but . . it’s cold.
Just sitting inside and looking out makes me cold. We have plenty of firewood on the porch so if the power goes off, we’ll stay warm. We won’t have any water . . but we’ll stay warm!
We’re getting a fine snow . . almost between tiny ice pellets and snow. There’s probably a name for that but I don’t know it.
Vince spread straw over the icy parts of the porch. We have to go that way to take Rita out. That concrete is slippery with a coating of ice.
Winter in Texas . . rare and thankfully short!

I believe it’s called sleet. Not fun and it hurts. It hasn’t risen above 8* here today in seacoast NH and now it’s down to 3*. So cold going to and from the studio.

The term is graupel, formed when super cooled water collects on snowflakes. Oklahoma had your weather a few days ago. Miserable!

Thank you. I had never heard that word so it wasn’t like it was on the tip of my tongue but I knew it had to be called something. I think that’s the first time I ever saw it.

I am FREEZING!!! Went out for a bit for my son and that wind is bitter! I hate the cold and this has already lasted too long.

Winter and being cold is not my favorite…the colder it gets the more difficult it is to remember we are one day closer to Summer. Ad the fact that I am married to a man who cannot stand the heat.

I think it’s called…Graupel, also called soft hail or snow pellets, is precipitation that forms when super cooled water droplets are collected and freeze on falling snowflakes, forming 2–5 mm balls of rime. The term graupel comes from the German language.

Here in Kentucky it is called “hominy snow”

Water mains are bursting all over St Louis – Bob filled 2-5gallon water containers just in case. At least we’ll be able to flush the toilet!

Ugh, cold here, too. I’m with everyone else, I don’t like it! I have drips on all my faucets, but I’m still afraid they are going to freeze with the prolonged below freezing, and dropping down as low as 8 – at the airport, and I live 1000 feet higher than that! =P I hope you don’t lose electricity, and you DO warm up!
